Jack Black is Down for 'The School of Rock 2'
Filed under: Comedy, Paramount, Remakes and Sequels
Something in the water over in France has got Jack Black loose-lipped. First he lets it out that Angelina is indeed having twins. Now, according to film-industry.biz, he's claiming there's a sequel to School of Rock in the works. There's even a script already written, and Black is anxious to return to the role of music teacher Dewey Finn. But it's not a done deal just yet. As he explained from the Cannes Film Festival: "In a few weeks we have to decide if we go through with the project or not."I may be one of the few people who didn't love the original School of Rock, but then, I'm one of those curmudgeonly fellows who can't stand Jack Black in anything. Of course, after watching his Eddie Murphy parody in the awesome new R-rated trailer for Tropic Thunder, I'm starting to think he could do some right in the film world. Or, maybe he has that one really funny moment and a whole lot of obnoxious moments, as usual.
However, while I'm still planning on seeing Tropic Thunder, regardless of Black's presence, I'd probably also return for another School of Rock movie for the kids, who are as enjoyable as they are talented in the first film (while I didn't love the movie as a whole, I did really like the soundtrack thanks to those real-life kid musicians). Of course, there will have to be a whole new crop of young musical prodigies for the next one. As for the possible return of other talents, Black provided no additional word on whether Richard Linklater would be back nor if the finished script was penned by the first film's screenwriter, Mike White.

I really did enjoy School of Rock but mostly for the kids and the music and Mike White more than Jables. I can't believe they think a sequel is a good idea.

That was a great film, but sequels usually suck.
My favorite lines from the first one are
Dewey Finn: Katie, what was that thing you were playing today, the big thing?
Katie: Cello.
Dewey Finn: Ok. This is a bass guitar. And it's the exact same thing but instead of playing it like this you tip it on the side... cello, you got a bass.
Gold.

This is the best news I've heard all day! The first film was one of my favorite films of the year when it was released. I fully expect to perform his a capella Legend of the Rent song at an open mic night someday. I will most likely be very drunk that day.
As a additional bonus, the SOR premiere provided the opportunity to capture the best pictures of Anne Hathaway I have ever seen. Perhaps she will wear similar attire to the SOR 2 premiere!
