'Spider-Man 4' Coming in 2010?

Things are definitely afoot with Peter Parker. First, we brought you the exclusive news that Spider-Man 4 and 5 might shoot at the same time. Now Marvel's Vice President Peter Cuneo has confirmed that Sony has made their payment to Marvel to renew their rights.According to Cuneo, "As far as Spider-Man 4, it's really up to Sony and it up to them, most likely scenario is 2010 or 2011 but we can't speak for them and I think that we don't know. They have given us their re-up payment for that film so you know they're going to make it within a reasonable timeframe. Sony may be looking at some issues with the cast and so on, I think they have to make some decisions."
IESB.net, who brought us this news (and have a bunch more, including stuff on the Spidey musical), argues that the tone of Cuneo's voice suggests that it all hinges on casting, and there's still no word yet on whether Sam Raimi will return to helm. Disappointment was rampant with Spider-Man 3, but I think it's safe to say most people want the old team. (Well, except Kirsten Dunst -- it seems like everyone wants her recast, and despite her complaints, I bet she would come back.) Certainly, Sony re-staking the property means there won't be any Marvel crossovers with this hero any time soon.
I would not be surprised if there's a definite decision on Spider-Man 4 by summer's end. I am envisioning a deluge of superhero films in 2010 -- we will all be experiencing a bit of deja vu, remembering that crazy summer when Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and The Dark Knight followed each other in rapid succession. Are you guys up for a return of Spider-Man? I'm not the biggest fan of the franchise, but it seems like they owe it a really stellar return. Now might be a good time to throw out the storylines you'd like to see; I always like it when you guys do that because it might actually come true.

Just as long as it's better than Spiderman 3. I had to agree with my dgtr who's 6; she pointed out that the only thing Spidey did was cry the whole movie.

If it has another director, maybe Mary Jane's role will be different. Otherwise we all know Lizard/Shocker/Kraven/Rhino/Vulture/Carnage kidnaps near the end...blablabla. I mean, by the 3 movie they didn't even bother to show she had been at some point been abducted. Kidnap someone else, or no one!
Also, 1 and 2 had villains who were interesting. Sandman was only half interesting, and he just wasn't nearly there.

I'm hoping that all the actors come back. It would be weird seeing someone else play Mary Jane at this point. Atleast she's not Katie Holmes. :P
I'm also hoping that they'll bring back Venom with the help of Carnage.

Spidey 4 would be a Lizard/Kraven storyline, A creature loose in the sewers; a giant gator or something more, J. Jonah is in tabloid heaven and stokes the fire by hiring the worlds greatest game hunter Kraven played by Gerald Butler to hunt the creature and a side hunt of spider-man who knows who the Lizard is so let the race begin.

I'm going to pretend that you did not say that you weren't a fan of the franchise, because that would be the first un-awesome thing I've read about you on this blog. ;-)
The first two Spider-Man movies are extremely important to me for various reasons, and Spider-Man 2 is two-plus hours of absolute euphoria for this lifelong webhead. Spider-Man 3 was a definite disappointment--and even temporarily shook my faith in the film medium as a whole, as idiotic as that sounds (and it was pretty idiotic)--but I have to say, it was still a pretty good movie.
I hope they can get the band back together one last time to make the Best Comics Movie Ever, which Spider-Man 3 by all rights should've been.

I really did phrase that badly. I think Spider-Man 1 & 2 are very good movies, and did the character justice.
Spider-Man just isn't my favorite character -- I always like him best when he's a secondary character in other storylines. But he gets major props from me for favoring us red-haired lasses. :P

Okay, so Spider-Man 4 is a maybe maybe not, but they have built up a lot of back story for a couple charectors, such as Connors and wasn't there a paper in Spidey 1 saying something about the Kingpin? During the commentary at the end of S3 the cast and director speaks of how Sir Ben was signed on to be the Vulture. There is always room for spidey and MJ to get married if they decide to follow that path, but we all know she will of course get kidnapped or held hostage. Lets not forget the Kingpen has a lot of super villians on his payroll so this story ( if ever made ) from an my fan perspective would make a great conclusion if directed and written well. But from the skeptic within me I feel as though the story might end up like dice in a yahtzee cup all over the place and rolling out with very little value.
One more thing I hope with every bit of hope in me they choose actors "actors" and not the flavor of the month.
