Brett Ratner Directing 'Beverly Hills Cop 4'

Wasn't there a prophecy of Nostradamus about this? Someone go look.Variety announced that, inspired by the success of Indiana Jones IV, Paramount has green-lit a fourth installment of Beverley Hills Cop. Eddie Murphy will return to play Axel Foley. Brett Ratner will direct. (I hear the cries of "doom!" from the Internet.) The movie is set to begin filming next year, with a 2010 release.
Murphy's actually the brainchild behind the idea -- and with the way his public image has fallen, it's no wonder he would love a return to the role that made him a megastar. Now we know what he was doing over the holiday weekend! Watching everything from Lethal Weapon 4 to Crystal Skull, saying "I could do that ... again!" (Or perhaps it was to redeem the title from Beverly Hills Chihuahua.)
Apparently, Paramount executives were keen to sign the papers because of Murphy's NowhereLand, which he just finished filming. Perhaps this is exactly what he needs to return to his talented, edgier self. Whatever spares the world another Norbit is fine by me.
Honestly though, this Remember the 80's! trend is becoming terrifying and tiring all at once. I suppose we have Lethal Weapon 4 to blame, but that was ten years ago. (Wow -- doesn't seem like it.) Plus, it was made a reasonable amount of time after the third film, so I'm tempted to clear all charges. I think the blame rests solely on Live Free or Die Hard.
Am I being too harsh? Do you want to see a fourth Beverly Hills Cop? I don't remember the third installment being particularly good (although I laughed at the obvious Disney snark), but it has been ages since I saw it. Still, I do have to wonder if there isn't a greater force at work. George Lucas had a cameo in it!

this could work reasonably well. murphy can act (see dreamgirls) and can be funny (although most of the funny was a long time ago). barring any kind of ridiculous plot twist in which rosewood and taggart are axel's long-lost cousins, i would see this movie.

We need this like we needed a fourth Indiana Jones and Rambo. Are Hollywood movies stuck in an 80's time warp?
And pairing Eddie Murphy with Brett Ratner is like the perfect storm equivalent for bad movies.

According to the Variety bit, Bruckheimer will be involved in "a limited capacity."
I think that means his name is on it, he reaps some profits, but he's not taking responsibility!

At this rate Hollywood can forget my ever buying another movie ticket. I'm fed up with this rehash, reboot, let's try and recapture the glorious days of the 80's. Seriously, I'm fed up with this "dumb down the audience by giving them more crap and eventually they'll learn to love it" method of movie making. The only way way they are going to hear is if we quit buying tickets to this fodder. As long as they make money (though how they ever make enough on this shit to cover the expense I still can't figure out) We have to hit them where it hurts, in the profits.

I am so excited about a beverly hills cop 4 -- this is eddie murphy's best role and was kinda bummed that he became family film guy when he is so hilarious as Axel Foley.
And why does everyone hate brett ratner so much? Every movie he has done has been fun and if anyone can make Chris Tucker into a mega star can make Eddie great in this movie -- just glad that a no name director is making this next cop.
wonder if Judge Reinhold will be in this too...

Are you kidding? Eddie Murphy is going to be playing the Judge Reinhold role, as well as fifteen other characters...

As much as I dislike Ratner for what he did to X-Men, this would actually be and ideal project for him. I mean, is anyone holding up the BHC movies as paragons of serious filmmaking? This is right up Ratner's alley - silly cop movie. But it will only work if Murphy can find his sarcasm and edge again.
Plus, Bronson Pinchot could use the big-name movie.

Eh... Bryan Singer did X Men 1 & 2 and then Ratner destroyed any credit the third one had before it came out, and when it did...
...moving on. He might have done silly cop movies before, but Eddie Murphy by himself is far superior than Chan and Tucker combined. This isn't the same kid of deal - that's what turned BHC 3 into such a piece of crap, it went from rough-comedy cop movie to family fun-time.
Go away Ratner.

Wow! So scientists have finally figured out how to make the Worst Movie of All Time! Fourth sequel + Eddie Murphy + Brett Ratner = perfect storm. Let me guess: This time, we meet Axel's extended family, all of them also played by Murphy, and all of them really farty.

i think this is a good idea. except for the brett ratner part. But I dont think Brett ratner could make eddie murphy look bad only he can make himself look bad. hes done a lot of crap like pretty much every comedian or at least black comedia (im black). i.e. chris tucker (well he hasnt done anything except rush hours), Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy, D. L. Hugley, Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer they all water it down. So Eddie needs to turn back that Delirious charm and makes us laugh again. If he can then this movie has a shot. Only problem is the movie will probably want a pg 13 movie and with the cursin will need a R
