The Gang is Back for 'Transformers 2'

After weeks of rumors, centering mostly on Jonah Hill, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the cast of Transformers 2. Joining the just-announced Rainn Wilson, and the already confirmed LaBeouf, will be Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro.Of course, director Michael Bay is returning to helm it, as well as the original writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who are joined by Ehren Kruger.
No word on story details yet, but filming has already begun in Los Angeles. It will move to Pennsylvania, and then overseas. Photos have been cropping up on the Internet already, though largely of scaffolding and trucks at this point.
Perhaps this is a good time to confess that I still haven't seen the first Transformers. I never watched the cartoon either, because it was a boy show. The only encounter I had with it was via a coworker of mine, who had the above logo tattooed in purple ink on his chest. I was given a Bumblebee figure in a swag bag long before the movie came out and I kid you not, it was the first time I knew Transformers had names. I'm not even sure my current position here at Cinematical will ever encourage me to see it because it just isn't my thing. Unless you guys tell me I'm missing the second coming of cinema ... and even then, I don't know.
Is it good news the entire cast has returned? Were you looking for fresh faces this time around, or are you comforted by the familiar presence of LaBeouf? What the heck is the sequel going to be about? Was there a good deal of uncovered cartoon ground in the first film? Please educate me, dear readers, and be nice. I could go look it up on Wikipedia but that won't be as much fun.

I thought Transformers was, without any doubt, the worst film I watched last year. Honestly, I thought it was only a step above Alone in the Dark. The entire film made me miserable. Did I need to watch Shia LeBouf spend 20 minutes looking for reading glasses?
The low point, though, was John Turturro. I am a big fan of Mr. Turturro, but I found him wholly unwatchable in this movie. His character sucked. His acting sucked. Everything about him sucked. Any second he was on screen was painful.
So, having him return is a surefire way to make sure I hold on to my time and money with this one, although this was little chance I'd bother seeing it, anyway.

Transformers is the ultimate combination of action car-porn and geek gadget-porn. Why do we need a Transformers 2? For the same reason we needed Deep Throat 6.
It's a brand name that is indelibly associated with vehicles turning into Mech's and wailing the ever-loving tar out of each other. Plot be damned (and if Michael Bay is returning, then the plot almost certainly will be).

If the tattoo was purple, chances are it was the Decepticon logo, not the Autobot one...
Sorry, I tried to keep it in but it was too much!

I think you are right!
I think I was too shocked to take in the details clearly. It isn't every day that someone lifts up their shirt while saying "You don't get it! I REALLY love Transformers!"

Don't worry, you're not missing much. The special effects were moderately entertaining, but that's about all it had going for it.

everyone i knew said it was a great movie. from girls to guys all over facebook status msn statuses.
i watched it with my friend he and both agree it was a piece of junk. it could partly be because u didnt know who was fighting who because the idiots that made the movie didnt figure out how to put different colors for different people.
actually i know it was mostly due to that watching that was somewhat like watching cloverfield. pain in the ass. i am willing to watch another one to see if they can improve. hell i sat through 3 piece of junk from the xmen movies i can watch another transformer movie.

ok, let me guess this straight...you're a blogger for one of the premier movie sites online and you 'kinda refuse' to watch a blockbuster movie from last year because you dont think you'll like it? arent you basically paid to watch movies? I find this puzzling to be honest...
anyway, I really liked it. sure, its more of a guys movie but I think everybody can get something out of it. I thought it was pretty funny and Shia did a really good job--Im sure you could sit through it for those reasons alone.
the story was pretty weak, that usually kills a movie for me. while watching there was no doubt to me that it was an introduction movie, the beginning of a franchise, but I thought the action, special effects and Megan Fox made up for it :)
have to agree with the first poster who complained about Turturro. I didnt have so much a problem with the actor I just thought the whole 'sector 7' story arc was a bit corny and definitly should have been cut.
watch it, Im sure you wont be too disappointed.
