Mel Brooks Heads Back to Horror
Between my recent Brooks double feature and the death of Harvey Korman, I've been wondering what's going on with Mel Brooks, and whether we'd ever be treated to another film. Well, we are at least getting more of Brooks' pen, but it's not in the way that you might think. In discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, the epic funnyman said that his shingle, Brooksfilms, is not closing (contrary to rumor), and that he is actually developing a horror film. No, he's not referring to something like Dracula: Dead and Loving It, which is the last film he penned for the big screen. He says that he's developing a serious horror film with writing collaborators Rudy De Luca and Steve Haberman called Pizzaman. Currently, there's no word on the plot, but considering the title, I think it's safe to say that it will include a Pizza man. Perhaps a killer pizza man?
What's surprising about this news is that Brooks seems to have a direct hand in writing it, although his previous involvement with horror/eerie/dramatic* films, like The Fly and The Elephant Man, were only on a company/producer level. Now if only he could bring us one more, really good comedy, I'd be overjoyed. But then again, some of his best stars are gone now, so maybe it's good that he just moves forward.
What would you rather have from Mel Brooks: a comedy or a horror?

Tough choice. I'd like another Great movie from him tho- or 10 or 12 even. As long as it's good, I don't care.

Maybe it would be weird to see a Brooks comedy without his regular crew participating. Could you imagine Will Ferrell or Jonah Hill trying to work with a Brooks script? I just don't see it having the same magic as back in the day. As for Pizzaman, haha, from the title alone, I think we might be laughing just as much as we're screaming with this one.

I think Mel has had a hard time coming up with a new movie spoof. He's done all the genre's. But I have a suggestion for him, it's a long the lines of "To Be or Not To Be", except this time it's the Bush Administration. It's called "Making History in the World-Part 1" or "B2 or Not B2". It's about a crooked President and his cronies twisting political situations and disasters into an attempt to make it big in the history books and failing miserably at the job of actually being a President. They eventually make it into the History books as the worst administration ever. The ending is the "President and his cronies scrambling madly on the White House roof for the last seats on the "last helicopter out" before the fall of the White House and Tanks from Russia, China, Mexico and Canada clsoing in on the White House. The day is saved when the newly elected President (played by Scoey Mitchell) steps in front of the converging tanks and says "Step Back while I whip this out" and he then produces the Constitution and announces in a close-up "It's Baaaa-ak".

That wouldn't be a horror movie - it would be a documentary. :-)
