Moviefone Picks the Top 25 Animated Movies
If there was one list I wouldn't even try to make, it's the top 25 animated movies of all time. I'm sure I would drive myself crazy trying to pick between all of them, torn between nostalgia and story, hand-drawn animation and the wonder that's come from computers. And then trying to rank them? No way. However, Moviefone did just that and compiled what they think is the Top 25 Animated Movies -- films that span studios, techniques, and decades.I'm not sure what to type right now because I'm still in awe that what I consider one of the best animated films of all time, and one that I adore, didn't even make the list. What did make it, for the most part, you can guess: There are toys that can talk, television shows brought to the big screen, a little bit of foreign fare, and of course, lots and lots and lots of Disney -- dogs, beasts, dwarves, mermaids, and more.
But really, how could my movie not be there? It's almost like I've become one of those uber fans who feels shunted, but I'm more surprised because I know that I'm not the only one. Its almost-bankrupting budget, the stylized art, and the Oscar-nominated score have made it a noteworthy gem over the years ... and my face is sort of resembling Woody's over there.
But go look at the list and check it out for yourselves. Are there any animated films that you feel should or shouldn't be there? And, can you figure out which one I'm talking about?

SLEEPING BEAUTY? Its one of my favorite animated movies. I'm guessing because it was stylized, nominated for an Oscar and Grammy for best musical scoring, and had budget nearly bankrupted Disney.

Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorites, too. Personally, I'd put it somewhere in the top 3, if not in the number one spot. I don't see how "South Park" made it. Boo!

Another great Don Bluth film is 'All Dogs Go to Heaven.' That's a classic childhood favorite right there.

Two I would have included well up on the list--both combination live action/animation: the critically respected Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and the overlooked and vastly underrated Looney Tunes-Back in Action

I dont see how almost half of the movies made it up there when Aladin didn't even make the list. Thats is how this list automatically loses its credibility.

this is a pretty good list.
Bonus points for including geek-favorites like "The Nightmare Before Christmas", "The Iron Giant", "Princess Mononoke" and "Spirited Away".
My only beef is the inclusion of "The Jungle Book". There are certainly others that are more worthy. My Suggestion: "The Prince of Egypt".

I love Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. The fact that Miazaki(sp) has his animators hand draw everything is astounding. Anime is hard to draw...If you dont know much about it. There are so many diffrent ways to draw anime I mean look at Inuyasha and then go and look at Speed Racer...Yes Speed Racer is anime..Japanese Anime...Not American Anime...-.- Yes there is some of that too. But I love my disney movies. Always loved Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, and even though this movie is Universal I will always love Land Before Time movies..

I'm not much into the Japanese Animation so I have never heard of them. I think that The Last Unicorn should have been on there as wel.

Holy crow! Where was Sleeping Beauty??? One of the most beautiful animated movies of all time, and they couldn't spare a place for it? I'm sure they could've knocked off something like The Simpsons Movie to make room for it.
