'Green Lantern' Inching Closer to Green Light?

Finally, some good news for all those DC fans! Producer Donald DeLine talked to the boys of CHUD about the long languishing Green Lantern film. While nothing has kicked into high-gear yet, the future is bright for Hal Jordan.DeLine confirmed that Jack Black is no longer attached to the lead role, which should make all fans sigh with relief. And it is no longer being touted as a comedic movie. Isn't it nice when Hollywood wakes up and realizes they've wasted time on a really dumb idea?
They are currently awaiting the first draft of a script by Greg Berlanti, which DeLine was hopeful would be on his desk very soon. They are looking to make it a sensible origin story of Hal Jordan, with all the heroics and aliens the story requires. Okay, I'm guessing on the alien part, but I don't really see them changing that.
Nor has the death of Justice League Mortal affected this Green Lantern movie -- as seems to be the case with all the Justice League characters, since they were operating on completely different wavelengths.
As our Scott Weinberg remarked last month, DC Comics really needs to catch up to Marvel in the movie department -- and a Green Lantern movie is long overdue. He isn't quite as iconic to the label as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are -- but he's close. Fans have stuck with it through countless rumors and comedic rumblings, it is time to reward them.
And at that, Green Lantern fans -- start telling me what you want out of this origin story. Tell me your casting and directing choices, or take this chance to say "Who said we wanted a movie?!"

Not bad. But maybe Cyclops is all the superhero-ing we need him to do. I've been hoping someone would cast Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as Superman, but if we can't get rid of Routh, then Hamm would be a great Hal Jordan.
(BTW... nice post ER)

From Greg Berlanti's script: Hal Jorden grew up in "Everwood" Colorado, with several "Brothers & Sisters", and a dog named "Eli Stone" who would frequently accompany him while fishing in "Dawson's Creek".
Okay, is it actually the same Greg Berlanti, or am I way off base?

I wouldn't have been excited about a Green Lantern movie until I saw The New Frontier, which also included his origin. I don't know about this Berlanti guy though. None of his credits strike me as being particularly suitable.

While New Frontier is one of my all-time favorite DC stories, Hal's origin in it is very different from his true origin.
I had agreed with you about berlanti until I read more about him. I think that he is a very talented writer, especially with strong lead male characters. Still, I was anxious because I didn't know how much experience he had in comics. Anyway, I read in Wikipedia that he is going to be assisted by people who do have that experience, and he is a GL fan himself. I feel comfortable that he can pen a nice script.

10 years ago I would have said Dennis Quaid. Now, he is too old.
Ben Browder for Hal Jordan.
I know it wont happen, but I would love to see it as a period piece.

I am so freaking happy about this! I love Green Lantern but I was always afraid they'd go with John Stewart who is just super-boring as a character. Thank god they've realized that you have to use Hal. He's by far the best. This is really really exciting news!!!

You're thinking of "Jon Stewart". He was Black. But he was like the third GL, I think. The first two were White.
I would love to see Jon Stewart, I just wish he had more of an imagination like Hal Jordan.

Your thinking of John Stewart. He was the (2nd) "Bronze Age" Green Lantern.
Here are the Green Lanterns in order.
1)Alan Scott- "Golden Age GL"
2)Hal Jordan- "Silver Age GL"
3)Guy Gardner- "1st Bronze Age GL"
4)John Stewart- "2nd Bronze Age GL"
5)Kyle Rayner- "Modern Age GL
Thanks to Geoff Johns and his comic "Rebirth", Hal Jordan is back in the spotlight as the most recent GL. I'm a die hard Green Lantern fan myself, and i personally can not WAIT for this movie!!!!!

Alan Scott was the GL from the 1940s. He had a different origin than Hal Jordan and got his power from magic rather than alien technology. The character was rebooted as a sci-fi character with Hal Jordan in the 1950s. There have been three other GLs from Earth since Hal (Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Guy Gardner) along with many, many of them in the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps.

I've always thought of Micheal Weatherly from NCIS as the best choice of Hal Jordon/Green Lantern.

The filmmakers should think this way: in terms of powers and fighting style a Green Lantern is like a perfect cross between a Jedi Knight and a Star Ship.
Good chance for prestigious older actors in the Guardian roles.
And to me, this seems like an obvious Keanu Reeves movie.
