Sam Raimi Would Return For 'Spider-Man 4'

Spider-Man 4 is picking up more steam by the week. Maybe it is just me, but it seems to have gone from a point of "not happening any time soon" to "any day now." I'm already feeling worn out thinking about it.For now, at least, the man behind the camera is on board. Sam Raimi talked to ComingSoon.net about his possible return to the franchise. "James Vanderbilt is writing the script and I'm excited to read it. I think it's going to be done in a few months. I'm hoping it's as great as our discussions were about it and I'm hoping it feels right for me because I love Spider-Man. I'm hoping I'm well-rested enough to embrace it and I'm hoping Sony wants me to do it. If all of those things come together, I would love to do it. There are a lot of unknowns about the future."
I can't imagine Sony not handing him the job, despite the poor reception of the third installment. And as enthusiastic as Raimi already sounds here, I imagine he will be refreshed and ready to tackle the web-slinger by the time Vanderbilt is done writing. Perhaps the question is whether fans want him to return after the disappointment of Spider-Man 3. I am all for giving him another shot, though, as two out of three is pretty damn good.
Now, someone get Tobey Maguire on the phone. Even if his interest ( or lack thereof) is as theoretical as Raimi's, we might as well know. We have at least a few months to kill before the script hits, so let's find out if Peter Parker needs recasting.

i think everyone loves a good superhero movie. especially the ones we grew up on
batman, superman, spiderman and xmen are the main ones.
no matter how bad they screw one up we will watch another one to give it a chance to make us happy. now if they can start ixing the xmen too. dont let brett ratner anywhere nearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr it. dont even let him be in the same state its filming

Boy i really hated Spidey 3.
I mean like nuclear levels of hate. And I blame Raimi for a lot of that. But the fact of the matter is the studio was up Raimi's ass about including Venom, etc., so if they can just leave him be this time we might have a return to form. As noted by the commenter above, even though i detested Spidey 3 I'm sure I'll be there opening weekend for 4...

Fine I'm in the minority, I liked the third one the best. It had lots of action and different plots going on at the same time. And at then end when Harry shows up to help Peter out I seriously got goosebumps. It wasn't a perfect movie but it was definitely my favorite of the 3.
If they do a new one I hope its not Maguire. He's not wisecracky enough to be Spider-Man.

I love the Raimi movies, but I agree Spidey hasn't been "wisecracky enough," as RC puts it. There's a cool Marvel promotional short (you can find it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4Nh1tVuGnw) that depicts a nicely animated CGI Spidey, Iron Man & Hulk teaming up against a giant robot. In this short Spidey is very wisecracky, indeed, and it made me realize how lacking the movie Spidey has been in this regard.
The aforementioned giant robot fight clearly owes a debt to the climax of "The Incredibles," but is really is quite nifty.

Sure, Spidey hasn't been as "wisecrack-y" as he is in the comics, but they got literally every single other detail down pat, and the character still felt like the character to me.
I would be overjoyed were Raimi to return. There's no possible way that he wouldn't know about the massive disappointment that the third was met with, and even though the studio forced him to include Venom, he's not the kind of person who churns out bullshit just because someone tells him to.
Now that he's gone old school and shot his upcoming horror film, I think that, if anything, he would be creatively revitalized.
