Sienna Miller is Maid Marian of 'Nottingham'

Am I the only one who hears Bryan Adams singing that cheesy love song each and every time Ridley Scott's new Robin Hood flick gets a mention? I can't help it, the damn song is just there. It's burned into my big-screen Robin Hood memories and it won't go away. Help! But enough about me -- the BBC tells us Sienna Miller has officially confirmed that she will be playing the lovely Maid Marian in Nottingham, opposite Russell Crowe's Sheriff of Nottingham. Says Maid Miller: "It's happening. I just found out. It's the most exciting news in the world. It's ridiculous. But there's this looming actor's strike, so it's not 100% sure that it's going to be made, but it's looking pretty certain." Hopefully we'll avoid this whole actor's strike thingy, because I'm honestly very interested in seeing what Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe and Sienna Miller do with the Robin Hood story -- especially since they're sort of flipping it so that the Sheriff is a bit more sympathetic and Robin is, well, nothing but a street hood ... or something like that. Oh, and there's a love triangle. No word yet on who they'll get to play the legendary Robin Hood, though I wouldn't mind seeing Orlando Bloom in the role. Thoughts?
Nottingham is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2009.

Ummm....definitely not Orlando Bloom, although he did work with Scott on Kingdom of Heaven which I appreciate more and more. But I would rather someone darker who could actually stand a fight against Crowe...of course it all depends on how the eventual story goes.

I don't mind Sienna Miller, but what about someone closer to Russell Crowe's age? Everytime I see or read about a movie with 20-year age difference between its love interests, I think of an interview I saw with Lori Petty (part of a documentary on women in Hollywood, I think) where she said that while she was the same age as Johnny Depp, she's much too old to play his girlfriend. Some people made a big deal when Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson did Something's Got to Give--finally, an older woman triumphs over a younger one!--but even she's ten years younger than Nicholson.
Maybe Maid Marian's supposed to be a lot younger in this movie. But with all the fuss given to "cougars" these days, what's wrong with two people of a similar age playing lovers?

I don't think that argument applies here. This film is set in a different point in history. I'm not a scholar of the Robin Hood legend, but most of the film/tv versions I've seen portray Marion as Robion's love interest, not the Sheriff's. Marian is supposed to be the love of Robin's life. He's titled. It's his duty to produce an heir (and a spare). A 44-year-old Marion (Crowe's age) wouldn't be a safe fertility bet. At age 27, Miller is already pushing the limit of believability, in my opijnion.

Robin Hood? Christian Bale. He and Crowe worked so well together in "3:10 To Yuma". And there's nothing wrong with Miller's age. I'm 20 years younger than Russell Crowe, and I think he's the sexiest man out there!

I'm not saying he's unattractive, I'm just wondering about the message it sends to women.

Try having to sing that Bryan Adams song a few times a day, for months, for a chorus class.
