Monday Morning Poll: Pick Another Del Toro Sequel

With the arrival of this weekend's Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, we find ourselves (once again) discussing *damn* how great a genre filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is. I mean, he's a wonderful filmmaker all around, but I include the word "genre" as an indication of my respect for the man. He's so knee-deep in horror, dark fantasy, and pulp fiction that I doubt he'd even WANT to do a straight courtroom drama. (I'd go see it though.) One of the most creative storytellers since the also-awesome Terry Gilliam, Guillermo del Toro hopes you'll want to take another spin with Hellboy this weekend, and that got us thinking ... if you could convince the director to do another sequel, which would it be. And why, knucklehead?
For me, I'd love to see another movie in the vein of The Devil's Backbone, but then again ... I wouldn't really want a sequel to that particular masterpiece. But fine, once the man is all done with his Hobbit movies, I say let him resurrect the Blade franchise. His chapter was (far and away) the best of that series.

None of those.
Let's see him go back to the At The Mountains of Madness adaption he was working on before The Hobbit snatched him away. Either that or another Lovecraft story like, The Dunwich Horror, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward...any of the best ones.
del Toro seems to me, uniquely suited to adapting Lovecraft's work faithfully to the big screen.

OK, Del Toro is not only a brilliant director but a hell of a nice guy, I met him at the TIFF after the premier of Cronos, and later worked with him on Mimic. But I'm sorry to say other than Blade or another Hellboy, I would not want to see him doing sequels to any other of his films, they are so good as stand alone films I'd be afraid that it would detract from the power of the original stories.

What Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordan don't get it? (Sarcasm dripping like slime from Cthulhu).
Del Toro would be perfect! I'm not looking forward to the Hobbit, I just don't think he's a good fit, it's just seems to fluffy for him.

I don't care about a genuine sequel, but I'd like to see him do more movies exploring the Spanish Civil War. The portions of Backbone and Labyrinth that dealt with the war itself were very very very good. I'd just like to see more of that.

Wasn't there a sequel to Mimic, already? Or was that The Relic, I always get those two twisted...
Well, Mimic, then.
