New, Fuzzy 'Dragonball' Photos

So while details surrounding the big-screen version of Dragonball have been kept relatively under wraps, it is wise to remember that nothing ever stays secret for long in the age of the internet. Just a few weeks after the first image of Justin Chatwin as the anime hero Goku hit the net, a crop of new magazine scans have been posted over at the Dragonball fan site, dbthemovie.com, with a few new shots of Goku, Bulma (Emmy Rossum) and Master Roshi (Chow Yun Fat). So even though this latest batch looks pretty similar to some of the earlier shots, at least these aren't watermarked.
Based on the classic anime series, Dragonball is the story of the hero Goku and his mission to protect the famed 'dragonballs' from the evil Lord Piccolo (played by James Marsters). Throw in some romance in the form of Jamie Chung and you have a summer blockbuster, right? Well, for director James Wong's sake I hope so, because let's be completely honest: expectations for this film are not high. In fact, most fans are probably just praying that Wong and company don't ruin their favorite characters, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Dragonball is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 10, 2009.

I was just thinking about Super Mario/Street Fighter/Double Dragon when I saw these photos. This will be an EPIC FAIL.
The only way Dragonball (not DBZ) could work is if the same amount of effort was put into it as Harry Potter. Even though I HATE Harry Potter, it still appeals to the fans because it stays (ostensibly) true to the source material.
Part of the reason that many do not have high hopes for this movie is the casting, and I believe most know of I speak (read: Justin Chatwin as Gokou?!). For example, has anyone seen "Forbidden Kingdom"? That movie would have done fine with Jackie and Jet ALONE, if you know what I mean.

yeah...I just don't know about this movie. DBZ was the best of all the Dragonball stuff. How far has Emmy Rossum fallen to have to play Bulma in this film?? Unless she really, really likes Anime or she got paid hella good!!

I never really watched Dragonball(only DBZ), but this is looking pretty bad.
Dragon Ball has potential to be a pretty cool movie, but this looks like a step it's going in the wrong direction.

Does Justin Chatwin ever not look like a sniveling twat?

Wow, what a bunch of pessimists on this board. With Stephen Chow's involvement, I wouldn't be surprised if there'll be a lot of the hyper-stylized action that made Kung-fu Hustle such a hit.
Hollywood sorely lacks a good beat-em-up with huge fireballs and outrageous anime-style fighting (that doesn't look like cheesy wire-fu with John-Woo slow-mo fx) - and I'm hopeful this will be the one.
