Early Review for Paul W.S. Anderson's 'Castlevania' Script

Much like the characters in the best-selling game, Castlevania is the movie that will not die. So far the film has undergone personnel changes and became one of the many causalities of the writers strike; but you can't keep a so-so idea down, and it looks like the project is up and running again. Talk of the film has surfaced again now that a script review for Paul W.S. Anderson's screenplay has appeared over at CC2K -- But I should warn you, it's not looking good.Early previews on Kotaku, described the script as the story of an, "adult Trevor Belmont who, with his fellow "battle-hardened" brother Christopher, is ordered by his king-through man of god Lucius-to dispatch you-know-who." But, according to CC2K's tipster, the latest incarnation of the story is more of a rip-off of Bram Stoker's Dracula with very few similarities to the Belmonts that fans know and love.
Originally, Anderson was going to direct as well as handle the script, but as we all know, he later dropped the project to work on Death Race. Enter Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) to take over directing duties, and who is still committed to the project despite the lack of a solid start date.
Having never played the games, I can't say I'm all that worried about the changes Anderson has potentially made to the Castlevania 'canon'. But I know that fans probably feel a little differently; so get it all off your chest, believe me, you'll feel better.

Oh no! What ever will we do if this film does not get made? I, for one, have never played the 'Vania games, but I have seen PWSA's films, and I cannot imagine who gives him the money to make these things.
He's turning (turned?) into Uwe Boll - film after film that's either plain crap through-and-through, or a videogame adaptation (a bad adaptation).

i LOVED this game (even though it was nigh-on impossible to beat Dracula), but i hate the idea of this movie.
Especially if he has a sword? what the heck is up with that? did simon belmont ever use a sword?

Aw, godfreakindammit. The Castlevania movie I've been looking forward to since forever has now been changed to something that is incredibly loosely based on the actual game. Might as well make another Van Helsing.
Won't even have a Belmont in it... or a Cruz or Fernandez or even a DaNasty.
I'm sad now.

Sigh...At least Van helsing was half way decent...this sounds like its gonna be a horrible chud of a video game adaptation...why do these asshole hollywood types (Im looking at you, Uwe Boll) think they gotta mess with something that doesnt need to be messed with...seriously, castlevania has a kickass storyline...it shoulda basically wrote itself...but no, now its gonna be just another damn game turned movie...basically the only thing its gonna have in common with its gaming heritage is namesake alone...if this goes through as it is currently planned...its gonna suck ass...fucking asshole...i wonder if he even played any of the damn games at all...

Dammit this has me really irked...it just screams no talent ass clown director trying to cash in on a notable gaming franchise and shitting all over the very fans that will go and pay to see this...as one of the people above noted...ive been waiting for this to be turned into a movie since i was a kid...and now it seems like its gonna be years of waiting all in vain...its a wonder there arent any good video game turned into movie adaptations...i wish konami would intervene...but thats wishful thinking i guess...

Okay, I’ve read your article and, firstly, I would like to comment, I am an avid reader of your site, in especial, the writings of Jessica Barnes. I have to comment that I see this adaptation (Castlevania) becoming similar to the Resident Evil movies; plain crappy, poor dialogue, and so far removed from the original ideas as to make it not worth watching it. We loved the original concepts and characters that by changing them, to suit the needs of executives from high, will only make one think, “what is the point of adapting it, when they could just make their own from scratch." The director/producer should just appropriate certain elements and create an original screenplay. Blah, looks like to going to be another Hollywood blockbuster-cum-straight to DVD-cum-straight to bootlegging movie.

something has to derail this crap-train. they'll ruin one of my favorite games. there is history, heritage, and legacy embedded in the storyline of this game. the whip 'vampire killer' is passed down generation to generation along with the training for fighting evil. these d. bags want to ignore it all and screw the pooch. the belmont family should rise up and vanquish these movie-making bloodsuckers. whip 'em good. you can't ignore the whip. nor the history of the belmont clan. it doesn't start after wwII. go to hell hollywood.
