Believe This: Chris Carter Talks More 'X-Files'
Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, RumorMonger, Remakes and Sequels
It's been almost a week since The X-Files: I Want to Believe hit the big screen with a dulled thump, making only $10 million in its first weekend. The film has managed to get a couple million more since, but it's going to take a lot more for it to hit its $30 million production budget, let alone surpass it. Still, in a talk with IGN, Chris Carter is itching for more.Carter said: "We had really good fun doing this movie - we have high hopes for it and we just want people to like it. If people do want to come and see it we'll certainly be talking about another movie." He then went on to discuss aliens, and how if more movies get made, that's something he would "definitely want to get back to."
Honestly, that doesn't sound too intriguing to me on its own, but I definitely could be swayed by this: "There's a date in the X-Files mythology -- 2012 -- that is very important. We'd certainly love to do something with that!" That's 12/22/2012 -- alien invasion day. So, while I'm not sure a run-of-the-mill X-Files would be a great idea, answering a long-pondered curiosity might. It'd be easy enough to increase interest -- show references to the date, get television stations to re-air eps and show them online.
But what do you think? Would 12/22/12 bring you back to the theater?

IWTB wasn't the big blockbuster people/critics were expecting, and that's why they were disappointed and tore it apart. it's actually a great movie, like the early X Files episodes that were more creepy then in your face action. also, it was going against the biggest money maker of all time.
i am hoping and praying for XF3 in 2012 dealing with the mythology. yes and yes.

Yes and Yes!!!! they should do the movie base on the x file mythology series about the year 2012. It is actually perfect because the world will be talking about the Mayan Calendar, nostradamus and the bible codes references to December 2012
I do want more X files...

Yeah, I Want To Believe did not suck, that's a little too harsh. But it wasn't great either.
I certainly hope they make another one though.

I can remember when the TV show was in full swing, my friends and I would ponder (openly sometimes), about what an X Files movie would be like. We thought it'd be really scary, like Seven with some supernatural elements in it... Seven meets the Exorcist or something. (although I find the Exorcist more funny than scary, ie the `Fuck Jesus!' extreme wanking scene) C'mon you didn't laugh through that?
I digress.
What happened to Chris Carter? This story line sounds sooo dull. I'm going to wait till DVD to see it.

I Want to Believe was a decidedly mediocre movie, like Carter and everyone said "Eh, it doesn't have to be THAAAT good." But it sat fine with me. Good old-style X-Files fun. It'll probably make bank on DVD and Fox might even be willing to put another $30 million in for another film.
But if Carter wants to keep making modestly-budgeted movies with low box office expectations . . . shit, man, why not just start the show again? I know Duchovny and Anderson are "busy" with their "careers," but a short, 13-episode season would be about as expensive and probably make more money than another feature.

wow - you really love your ""
I kinda this that the two "leads" are "busy" with their "careers".
One just won a golden globe and one was just in an oscar winning film and is one of the only american "stars" to be repeatedly asked back to pick ticket shows in the West End.
There's more to a "career" than US prime time. There a whole world of culture out there.
