George Lucas Talks 'Indiana Jones V'
Filed under: Action, Casting, Paramount, RumorMonger, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Remakes and Sequels
Could it be, as MTV suggests, that due to fans' dissatisfaction with Mutt and/or due to LaBeouf's problems with the law that Lucas no longer sees the character as a viable investment? Or did he merely come to his senses about how much more money the movie would make with Ford starring? Lucas says that "Indy 5" is still only an idea but that people are researching possible artifacts to base the movie around. Personally, I don't care what kind of MacGuffin is used, so long as the Nazis are the villains again. The commies in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull just didn't do it for me. I know the temporal setting can't be WWII anymore, but Indy could always head back into South America and battle the Nazis who escaped to Argentina and Brazil and elsewhere.

doesn't Spielberg have a say in this too? I think we can all agree that Indiana Jones probably should be left alone. Crystal Skull was a good try but it can only go downhill from here.

Maybe the next sequel can be one of my dream projects in 3-D: "Indiana Jones and the Moon of Endor."
Or, perhaps George will produce an animated version: "Indiana Jones: The Jones of Indiana."
Or, perhaps a movie reflecting the character's advancing age: "Indiana Jones and the Broken Bone."
Or, maybe an adventure on the West Coast in 1960s: "Indiana Jones and the Mysterious Cigarettes of Haight-Asbury."
Or, he could travel to another continent and presage a popular documentary: "Indiana Jones and the March of the Penguins."

Good idea about Argentina. How about ... his nemesis, Belloc escapes to Argentina with the Nazis and once there comes across a map. He then contacts Indy to help him find some kind of hidden treasure buried beneath Machu Pichu. Naturally Belloc betrays Indy and wants to give the discovery to the Nazis in Argentina in the hope of using the money from the sale of the treasure to re-establish the Third Reich. Indy fights to bring the Nazis to justice and save the treasures, etc. Adventure ensues ....

Um, Belloq's face melted into a pool of blood. Argentina is an excellent location and Nazi war criminals is a good idea, M. Smith, but Belloq is as dead as Dillinger.

How about Indiana Jones and the Flowers and Candy Sent to Frank Darabont?
Because I have to say, I didn't HATE Skull, though maybe I should have, but as far as I'm concerned, it's still a trilogy. There is NOTHING short of an infallible screenwriter and solid story (or even just limited interference from Lucas) that would get me to see Indy 5.

Why not do a "two years ago" prequel like they did with Temple?

Why not "Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth"?
Or "...and the Garden of Eden"? (thus keeping the on-off pattern of Christianity-related quests)
After seeing "The Fountain" for the first time the other night (I don't need to say I was disappointed, do I?) I'm anxious to see someone approach the "quest for immortality" and do a good job of it.
Plus wouldn't the fountain of youth be perfect for Indy to be looking for...for obvious reasons?

I think if they were going to go back in time to when Indy was younger, they need a whole new person to reprise his role. My first choice would have been Dennis Quaid, but he is too old also. The actor that should take over for Ford should be a new person know one has ever heard of. Kind of like Christopher Reeves with Superman. Someone who looks rugged. Shia just doesn't look the part.
