Poll: How Much Will 'W.' Make at the Box Office?

Each day seems to bring us yet another piece of promotional marketing for Oliver Stone's Bush flick, W. Not long after Moviefone debuted the trailer, AICN now has a teaser poster and what you see above is one of two newly-released images from the film. They're definitely pimping it, trying to get folks interested in a movie about the life and times of George W. Bush even though many of us are tired of the man, the jokes, the legend -- all of it. We've spent 8 years with this dude ... can't we just shake his hand, thank him for a job done and move on?
Anyway, W (which feels like it was shot and edited in three weeks in order to make a pre-Election Day release date) arrives in theaters on October 17, and we were wondering how much you think it's gonna make? With one of the biggest presidential elections in years only a couple weeks away from that date, and with the entire world watching to see who we'll replace Dubya with, will all that chitter-chatter raise more or less interest in the Oliver Stone movie? Is this the kind of flick that will surprise everyone with a giant taking, or will it crash and burn? Sound off below ... and we'll revisit your answers in a couple months when W rolls out.

I don't think it'll do well. I can't seem to figure out what he's trying to do with it. Is he wanting to rip Bush a new one? If so, it's far too late in his Presidency to be relevant, let alone effective. He'd be well behind the pack as well, with quite a few movies about the Iraq War made, not to mention dozens of documentaries. Is he wanting to explore his legacy? If so, he's jumped the gun by at least a few months (if not several years), since Bush will still be President when it's released.
I just don't think it bodes well for Stone's career, especially since he's yet to really live down how enormous a flop Alexander was.

Now granted, I don't have cable so I'm not sure I'll ever know what the TV press for this is going to be commercials wise, but this movie MAY take between 10-30, with 30 being very very generous. People may bitch about the man, but I doubt they'll care enough to put up and watch the film. Which is sad statement unto itself.
However, it may make a killing when it hits the overseas markets, because well, it's hip to hate on our president by non-americans. Hell, I don't like the guy, but its ridiculous how fashionable being anti-bush became.

I think it's going to disappoint at the box office. It might get some curiosity views, but people are sick of Dubya, Stone hasn't delivered anything watchable in years, and while Josh Brolin is a great character actor, he doesn't have much box office power.

I remember when being against Bush's Policy and his enormously flawed trading practices (the dollar has declined 40% in 6 years) made you shrill, and a traitor. I'm glad people are finally seeing this exposed debutante and talking head for the neo-conservatives for what he really is. Its not fashionable Max, Its warranted.

when I hear 13 year olds bitching about Bush, kids that weren't even 5 when the man went into office, it's become fashionable.
don't get me wrong, I dislike the man, but c'mon, you can't say being anti-Bush has become a fucking fad amongst the majority of americans under 25, at least.

There will be a curiosity factor, I think, that will push it into the $10-30 million earnings range. That being said, the trailer played before "Swing Vote" at a packed Dallas theater just minutes from the future location of the W. presidential library (and in the neighborhood where W. will probably be living come January), and the audience reaction to this trailer was ... zero. No boos, no cheers, just stunned disinterest.
I might dismiss the reaction entirely, except that the trailer for "Beverly Hills Chihuahua," which played just before the "W." trailer, elicited peals of laughter. One middle-aged women behind me said excitedly, "We've got to see that."
Oliver Stone is in trouble, unless he sticks a talking dog into his movie.

Some might argue that he already has...?

Well, that's just goes to show how pathetic those people are. "Beverly Hills Chihuahua"?!?! I saw the trailer for that dopey piece of crap along with that other "Legally Blonde" imitation shit and you'd have to be more brain-dead than a 3-year-old to think that that was funny AND be more responsive to it than a movie about Dubya.
I hope this movie does make a few hundred mill, as unlikely as it may be. And the movie does have a talking dog in it...it's name is Dubya. At least that's what Barney told me.

This is an obvious attempt to influence the November election by a director who has a history of far left, anti-war politics. For those viewers who share his views this will be entertaining.

I think the worst case scenario is "Lions for Lambs", and even that ended up making 60 million worldwide. Retitle the movie "President Fuckhead" for foreign audiences, and it will make some coin overseas. I say the movie hits at least 80 million worldwide.

I plan on seeing it, but it has little to do with my dislike of W. The clips I've seen look humorous enough to warrant a viewing. It might be worth it just to see how Dreyfuss does as Cheney, and Thandie Newton as Condoleezza.
But it probably won't make much coin overall though. Primary Colors was a fairly entertaining satire of the Clintons that came out while Bill was still Prez and it didn't do all that well.

Depending on the final trailer, I think this has the potential of hitting $500 million worldwide. Ask this question again after the second/final trailer has been released.

Stone should have waited til this lame presidency is over. Then the movie will have a real happy ending...like impeachment, facing war crime charges, or having veterans spit on him as they return home from iraq.
