Update: Say It Ain't So, Chunk! 'Goonies 2' IS On the Way
Filed under: Action, Classics, RumorMonger, Remakes and Sequels

Ugh. I should've known that with the release of Lost Boys 2, nothing beloved was sacred. Sure, we've posted Goonies 2 rumors before, when Sean Astin called it an "absolute certainty," and when Data and Chunk were approached, even though Josh Brolin had heard nothing. Now, if Moviehole's sources are to be believed, it's definitely on the way. And no, I'm not talking about a Goonies 2 video game re-release. (Will the Wii ever get it!? I keep waiting...)
An unnamed source (one that we'd supposedly "know straight away this was a solid bit of news") said that it is definitely happening -- not as a Tribeish straight-to-video release, but as a full-scale feature film (which WB has confirmed). Writers are whipping it up now, and it'll feature some of the original cast. That's a huge bummer, because the only way I could begin to get intrigued would be if all the surviving people signed on once again. It wasn't too long ago that the entire cast reunited for that DVD commentary, so I'll still hope for a full, or almost full, return.
But still, it's a crapshoot whether this will be worthy of the beloved original. What would they have to do to capture your interest in the sequel?
UPDATE: Corey Feldman tells Moviefone a Goonies sequel will most likely not happen: "Well, 'The Goonies' is one of those mythical sequels that will never happen [laughs]. I mean, it's something that Donner and Spielberg were behind for years and years, and again it's a Warner Bros. issue; they just feel they don't want to take the gamble on making the sequel." This movie will suck unless they bring back Data and Josh Brolin.

They've only been talking about this movie for years... They were talking about it since they all grew up it was going to be with them as parents of the kids on some adventure.
I'll go see it for sure!

Even if the entire surviving cast were to return, it would still be weird considering half of them don't even act anymore.
Besides, I don't want to see Chunk grown up. I want to see him young and chunky. An adult doing the truffle shuffle would just be creepy.

The original is my favorite movie of all time. Any sequel, I will see it at a midnight showing, no matter how bad it is. If it's good, I'll see it 10 times opening weekend and another 50 throughout its run. That's how much I love the original. If they have at least half of the cast return, they could pull it off. They better have one hell of a plot, though. PLEASE, DO THIS RIGHT! If Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg are in, they will. I personally guarantee it.

JimeneX, the picture was taken outside the recording studio where the cast and Donner recorded the commentary for the dvd release.

NNNNOOOOOOOOO!!! god....what are we doin, i mean really, has our film industry deminished that much. Why do we feel the need to "add on" to movies by making another and another...and another..or to remake movies that don't need to be remade. The industry doesn't care about originality anymore , its just about money, thats it, and its clear more than ever. If you were a fan of Goonies ( and how could you not be) then why would you in your right mind want to see a sequel thats goin to take place like over 2 decades later...my mind wants to explode right now...be ashamed people, be ashamed.

Please don't jerk me around on this one! I get my hopes up every damn time these rumors start, then I feel like I get kicked in the stomach when they don't amount to anything!
Use the original kids, some may not have acted in a while, but they didn't act much before Goonies either!
Martin Sheen??? That's President Kennedy you idiot!
Well he played Kennedy once!
That's my mom's most favorite piece!
