Jason Statham Wants to Be Daredevil
Filed under: Action, RumorMonger, Fandom, Newsstand, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
This is all casual talk, occurring over beers at the Hard Rock Hotel (oh, to have been at the bar next to them), but it's a fun bit of rumors and dream casting nonetheless. Geoff Boucher of the LA Times' Hero Complex blog chatted up Jason Statham and Frank Miller on, of all things, Daredevil. The three started talking about a potential reboot of the character, with Statham taking on the role of Matt Murdock. The hard-hitting Brit is excited at the very prospect. "Absolutely, just give me the chance, I would love to be Daredevil." (The emphasis is all Boucher.) In fact, when Boucher suggested he'd make a better Bullseye, Statham looked as though he'd hit him with his pint glass. "Forget Bullseye, I want to be Daredevil!"
Miller thinks he should be Daredevil too -- and apparently got quite quite a twinkle in his eye at the very thought of another movie. That's not surprising, since the character made his career, and I could see him ushering a Daredevil reboot into gear sooner than penning a sequel to 300. (At least, that's what I hope and dream would happen.)
So, what do you guys think? Would Statham be a good fit for the Man Without Fear? As I could watch Statham in just about anything, I'm too biased to judge. (He's got the right jawline for the mask!) I also haven't read as much Daredevil as I should; I have the misfortune of always encountering him as a secondary or background character, so I don't have a very good feel for him. But I like the idea, if only so I could get the Elektra reboot of my dreams.

Geez, how could it not be? That was one of the first movies in a while that I didn't even finish watching. Couldn't stomach it.
Though, honestly, I always thought DAREDEVIL would be one of the few superhero "franchises" that would easily translate into a weekly series. He's a lawyer by trade, so the bulk of the show could be the legal aspect -- and it'd be one with a central villain (Kingpin). Can easily see a multi-year story arc on that, with a lot of filler cases and etc. going on.

Well, he'll need to wear a wig. Won't that kind of ruin his balding but still bad-ass kind of look?

I always thought that Statham would have been perfect for Ghost Rider but I can see Daredevil as well.

Wonderful. First a gay Batman and now a gay Daredevil. I want to be Sherlock Christ and Buddha now. Actually, not at all, of course. LOL

It wasn't a great movie or anything, but I actually liked the Affleck Daredevil, and though I'm sure they could produce a much superior reboot, I hope it's not with Statham. I genuinely cannot stand him or anything that he does. He's a one-note actor, playing that one note with all the grace of a thudding hammer. And the note's not even that great to begin with; he's just another ridiculous, faux-macho man.

first of all, i only liked jason in 2 flics (lock stock and snatch). he's quickly becoming typecast and for good reason. all of his roles are just like a rehashing of things that happened in his previous movies. I DO NOT see him as Daredevil, or any superhero type of character, and if he were to be cast for this movie, he would be better suited for Bullseye, than for anyone else..studios and writters are just jumping at any notable actor for their comic-book roles, simply because of the fact that its the new trend for actors, and all the good ones are being snatched up so quickly..i hope this doesn't come to fruition. but on a positive note, he would be better than that "hack" Affleck!! but thats not sayin much.

Shouldn't we wait and see how badly The Spirit bombs before we let Frank Miller behind the camera again? (much as I love him!)

Man, I'd like to see a Statham "Daredevil" duking it out with Colin Farrell's Bullseye. That would be fucking mean.

I've always thought Statham would fit perfectly in the role of Daredevil. For the actor to work in the role of Daredevil it helps if you believe he can really "kick some ass". And Statham looks like he can. I hope this comes to pass and I hope they get a good script.

Jason is not good casting for Daredevil. I like him in roles like The Transporter and no doubt he will find his niche in meatier roles in the future. I am a long time Daredevil fan. Aaron Eckhart has recently proven he has the acting chops to pull off a dual personality and be believable as both, and he looks like Matt Murdock/Daredevil to boot. Catherine Zeta Jones is perfect for Electra. James Gandolfini is perfect for the KingPen. And Ray Fines could pull off Bullseye. Paul Greengrass directs. Jeff Imada does fight choreography. All those Pakur guys that hop around like in the beginning of Casino Royale do the stunts. With a 70 million dollar budget this film would easily gross 150 to 185 million domestic. The first rule in film adaptation of comicbooks is DO NOT SCREW THE LOOK. You would think after all the billions of dollars Spiderman, Ironman, and The Darkknight has grossed Hollywood would have learned it's lesson by now. The costumes are as important as the casting. Everyone should have learned that from the first Daredevil film. What does it matter(?!). The people that work on these projects have their heads way to far up their collective asses to make these common sense calls anyways.

The present homosexual version of Batman is the dead end. A homosexual Daredevil will not fly, or fight.

Here's the thing about Statham as Daredevil: Do you buy him playing Matt Murdock? A lawyer?

I concur with posters like "Ian C", that beg the question, "Straham as Matt Murdock, a lawyer, and even more absurd, a dual-personality?" Jeeezuusss--this guy is a "one-note" actor that should know his limits. He is just trendy right now. The ball-scratchin', no-nonsense, limited-intellect, UFC-type. Yawn.
I am the same age as the average movie-goer, yet am digusted by the limited actors these days. With the exceptions of some old schoolies left (De NIro, O'Toole, Pacino, Duval,) and a few torch-bearers (norton, Depp, poor Ledger, Oldman, and sometimes Law) Today's "actors" suck my ass. I bristle when I read many movie posts--most of the 'masses' possess such low-standards for art (most notably, cinema), I mean, WTF, what ever happened to the likes of Brando, Wells, Tony Perkins, Richard Burton? Audiences KNEW that when they went to see one those guys' films that, even if the film was so-so, the actor would make all-better, earn his pay and then-some. Sure this could be construed as a 'rant', but at least it is truthful and dead-on.
Hell with most studios' casting choices these days, we should just settle on having Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake as the A-listers for the next 30 years.
