Natalie Portman to Star in 'Suspiria' Remake

Well, since it seems that the very few out there who still respect what I have to say about movies, and horror movies in particular, either didn't read or didn't mind my mild admission that I only like Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, I feel a little bolder about bringing another piece of quasi-blasphemy to light: at this time last year, I hadn't seen Dario Argento's treasured Suspiria, and when I eventually did, I was distinctly underwhelmed. Perhaps it was too dated, perhaps I was too jaded, but I was relegated to sitting back and just plain 'respecting' another classic of the genre.
That makes me no more oblivious to the fact that it's sacred enough that a remake announcement is cause for cringing. Making matters a little less cringe-inducing, though (in my opinion), is Bloody Disgusting's confirmation that Natalie Portman is to star in the 2010 incarnation. She's smart, she's sexy... in short, this Oscar nominee could wander curiously around the halls of my eerie ballet academy any day.
However, I still find the reports that David Gordon Green is attached to direct a little hard to swallow; I'm still coping with the fact that he directed the very funny and relatively mainstream Pineapple Express. Maybe a why-not stance would be most fitting at the moment.
Suspiria remake? Portman starring? What do you think?

I think a lot of horror fans just got a lot softer (in opposition!) towards the prospect of a Suspiria remake.

as much as I would hate a Suspiria remake, Natalie Portman is actually giving me some hope.

David Gordon Green and Lisa Muskat were at the Dryden Theater (the best thing about living in Rochester, NY) to introduce Snow Angels, and he mentioned the Suspiria remake. Based on his comments that night, I walked away with the impression that he was going to write the film but not necessarily direct it (he only mentioned writing it).
Anyway, in person he seems much more like the director of something like Pineapple Express than of, say, Snow Angels, despite the fact that the latter is way more of a 'David Gordon Green film' than the former.

Portman's company denied this. She has another project in the works.

Gee, Sara, without a link or anything else to go on besides your word, I'm going to keep giving the benefit of the doubt to B-D. If they're wrong, we're wrong; but until you can prove it...

:shrugs: Gee, if BD is the source, then it must be true. While we're asking for sources, I'm assuming y'all can provide a better source than that? Because you guys also reported that Portman was doing some idiotic life-blogging project (with sources reported and everything!), that actually turned out to be Portman setting up a crew to film for charity FINCA.
(Hey, whatever. It's a silly film remake. But np.com has a history of contacting Portman's reps and getting reliable info, as they did with this story. I actually find it interesting that fansites like Keiraweb.com can establish a relationship with actresses reps (and report accurate information long before Variety) but film sites can't.)

... and Argento is still refused to be agreed for the idea. The most annoying thing is that "connection with videogames, fashion and music"... i mean WTF with that? the 11th confirmation to say that the entire project would be a total mess, and with that rumor with Portman starring would be good, but confirmed that it doesn't happen... so i deleted with the project.
