Why Won't Alex Proyas Direct 'Silver Surfer'?

You have to feel bad for the Silver Surfer. Everyone else is getting their own spin-off and franchise, and he can't even get the green-light. J. Michael Straczynski already said that his script was dead, but rumors continued to swirl that Alex Proyas was attached to direct. But as reported by Slashfilm, Proyas shot that down at ComicCon. He didn't even know where the rumor originated. And while he's very fond of the character, he told MTV this week that he will never even consider directing a Silver Surfer movie. Why? "Because it's a Fox picture. And I'm determined never to work with them ever again because of my experience on I,Robot." Nor is he happy with the way the character was handled in Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer. "It's like the origin of Silver Surfer was in that movie, and I'm going, 'This is such a f–king great story, why throw it away? I think they messed it up ... Silver Surfer would have been something I would have loved to have done. He's one of the last cool ones left, really."
Who knows -- maybe Fox will relinquish the rights to the Fantastic Four characters (it's not like they're using them), and Proyas will not only get to direct a comic book movie, but fans will get a Silver Surfer movie from someone who really gets the character. But with all the studios jealously guarding their franchises, we'll probably see a Fantastic Four reboot before we see the Silver Surfer in the hands of someone that cares.

Thats to bad Silver Surfer would be great on-screen. I did not think He got as good of a view of how he really is in Rise of the Silver Surfer. I wonder if Marvel could ever get back the rights to Fantasic Four and Silver Surfer plus get to work more in the movie like Iron Man.

Michael Byng I did enjoy Fantasic Four but if you want the real Fantasic Four I think a reboot is what is needed. There are some things wrong like age wise and as much as both movies were fun they really never brought in the money they could have. So it might be best to restart the whole thing and get it right and this time find a way to make people go and see it. To me Invisible Woman never was her self and she was to young. So just different things like that over all it was fun but the way the characters were made never were them self.
Back on topic the Silver Surfer has great history in Marvel and I see no reason there would not be a SS movie. SS is not right now as hot of a licence but if you could really give time to him you would see how great of a story SS could be. Heck before Iron Man went into being a movie some people were saying there is not a lot to use from and that Iron Man would turn into a crappy movie and Iron man turned out to be one of the best comic book movies out there.
So I hope SS some day can get his own movie because if you pick up the comics you will see that there is a great world and story waiting to be told on film.

The Silver Surfer is the cooler version of Superman that we will never get. Whomever directs this I hope that they "get" the character. Fantastic Four should go back to Marvel and go all Negative Zone and Franklin Richards. Silver Surfer is my favorite character out of Marvel and they should take an intellectual approach to the property. He is action packed, but he is emotion, spirituality, metaphysics, and epic. He's the alien we've never seen in any movie put out by hollywood ever. It's too bad Stanley Kubrick is dead. Go with Ang Lee or Darren Aronofsky

I wish that Marvel would reboot the Fantastic Four. The Thing was exactly ought to be and The Invisible Girl was at least acceptable.Reed was a wussy geek, though, and not a mature scientist, and The Torch is suppose to be a hothead
( thus the name) and not a goof head. As for the Silver Surfer, my question was on Cinematical and that was..." Will the Sivler Surfer talk in the philosophical way as in the comic books?' Even though the answer was a yes, the results was a no.If Marvel takes control as in the way of Iron Man and The Hulk, then the Silver Surfer has a chance at least.

The Silver Surfer is by far the most interesting super hero of the Marvel family! His powers are virtually unmatched. He has limitless boundaries of travel through time and space. A being that stays on a precise mission of his master, yet with all of that, when he
encounters earth. He struggles to understand the nature of the race of people he has unexpectedly drawn near to. He has travel to thousands of galaxies, experienced the births and deaths of stars, but since visiting earth, he cannot figure out the same thing we haven’t out about the human dilemma.
A new movie about The Silver Surfer would have unlimited possibilities for story plots and still stay true to his comic book character. After a real introduction to his origin, a brief encounter with the FF, his clash with the Big guy Galactis (that would make for some outstanding FX), opens his story for new untold adventures on earth and/or in the universe somewhere. The movie can show his Majestic and Nobel personality, as well as the Power Cosmos he possesses as he inner acts with us earthlings.
Though I enjoyed seeing my all in all comic book hero come to life on the Big Screen in “The Rise of the Silver Surfer”, I felt he wasn’t depicted 100% to character. And when Dr. Doom captured the Surfer’s board…..the Surfer loss his powers???!!??
Where’d that come from???
Anyway, The Silver Surfer if done right could be a major franchise as Iron Man will. And getting the right folks to do his file is a must, but Stan please set them straight on who the Surfer is, like the way you and Jack created him to be.
The Silver Surfer Rules….nuff said.
