BREAKING: 'Ghostbusters 3' is (Maybe) ON!
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Deals, Fandom, Newsstand, Remakes and Sequels
We've stayed away from all the Ghostbusters rumors these past couple days because last time we crossed this road, we were told nothing existed. Well, seems that's not at all true: Variety reports that Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office, Year One) have been asked to write a script for a Ghostbusters sequel (reported earlier today by Pajiba.com) that may or may not "pass the torch to a new group of ghost chasers." Funnily enough -- and even though he flat out told us he had nothing to do with it -- this is totally in line with those early rumors that "The Apatow Clan" would be involved in some capacity; namely Seth Rogen. When we asked him about it during the Pineapple Express junket, however, the man denied knowing a thing. Then again, he's an actor ... and he's paid pretty damn well to pretend. The Apatow connection is also there in that these two writers are behind the Apatow-produced Year One, which, ahem, is being directed by Harold Ramis -- who, in case you forgot, played Dr. Egon Spengler in both Ghostbuster movies. No word from Columbia Pictures on the project, and Variety is simply throwing out all the same fluff that's been reported on other sites for months now. Could we see a reunion and a torch passing? Will the Apatow folks take over the Ghostbusters franchise? I'd certainly be down for it.
You?
(And now we shall continue to run circles around this monster until someone finally caves ...)

I'd definitely be down for it, but would the American masses be down for it? It's been nearly twenty years since 'Ghostbusters II'. It seems to me that the 'reboot' seems to be fairly popular in H-wood right now; why aren't they going in that direction instead?

Oh my God. Apatow must be stopped. No torch should be passed. Keep the regular cast and if you can't well too bad their should be no Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters was a hit because at the time it was "Oh check it out the guys from SNL are doing a movie about ghosts" and now it's hey lets throw in the Apatow gang. I forsee a Apatow Ghostbuster as a movie about ghostbusters who get high all the time and who make gay jokes. I don't want to see the ghostbusters I grew up with turned into that. Like I said it should keep the same people and if not, I want to atleast see a script from Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd.

Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Sacha Baron Cohen, Mike Meyers, Damon Wayans, etc. As much as I hate sequels of certain classics, I honestly think this could be a source of some truly fun new film. A new generation of chasers, some good cameos, a little Snoop Dog somewhere, it could be fun.

I can't say if this is a good idea or bad idea yet. I have way too many questions. How did they get this away from Dan Aykroyd and Ramis? Did Bill Murry agree to be in it? I thought he had a portion of the rights and that was the reason part 3 didn't happen years ago. Those are just a few.
Can't say I'm opposed to these supposed new writers. The Office is a smartly written show and Ghostbusters should be a smartly written movie. Just tossing out names but, I always thought Seth Rogan, Steve Correlle (yeah, I know I misspelled that), and Jack Black would make awesome new ghostbusters.

Thats all we need to see is the fat ass jonah hill trying to make ghostbusters into a stoner flick, and seth rogen and paul rudd saying lines like " you know how i know your gay, uhhh cuz you trapped slimer uhahah." I'm all set. Keep the original cast or nothing at all. I'll take a cgi film about them with the original cast voice overs anyday than a movie with the stupid "apatow clan" Pinapple express SUCKED BTW! FRANCO YOUR NOT SEAN PENN FROM FAST TIMES PAL...NOT EVEN CLOSE!

I Think it would be great to have another Ghostbuster movie, I think they should use Jim Carry, Steve Carell. Adam sandler, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

A ghostbusters movie with out the original cast sounds like a "re imagined" film.... NOOOO!!! As far as the originals passing the torch.... do you really think they would pass it to a bunch of stoners??? Don't get me wrong stoner movies have their place but not in ghostbusters. It wouldn't be hard to write a good script with the original players that fans would love.... I wish people would stop being lazy!!!!!!!!Let see the real deal.
in fact I am going to write a script... Hit me back if you think it will be better than a stoner script.

A new Ghostbusters could be brilliant with the old cast and a new generation. I don't know about Apatow though. I bet Steve Carell is being considered. Lest we forget Bill Murray had a cameo in Get Smart this past summer.

Needs Bill Murray and no passing of the torch, then it will be brilliant.

As long as Ramis and Aykroyd have something to do with it I am games, Ramis would be great to direct it.

Bill Murray is a must. Can't beat the original.
Here is a nice bunch of clips from the first movie with a great track overtop.
