It's Official: Harvey Dent Not Returning for 'Batman 3'
Filed under: Action, Warner Brothers, Fandom, Newsstand, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Dark Knight Spoiler Warning ...No more speculation, no more talk of ret-con and false funerals -- Harvey Dent is officially 100% dead. It comes straight from the mouth of Aaron Eckhart, who revealed his character's fate in no uncertain terms to ComingSoon.net "He is dead as a door nail. He ain't coming back baby!"
And lest you doubt that he knows the mind of Christopher Nolan, well, Eckhart asked him whether Two-Face would ever be coming back. "I asked Chris [Nolan] that question and he goes, "You're dead" before I could even get the question out of my mouth. 'Hey Chris, am I?' 'You're dead!' 'Alright, cool.'" There's no chance it will be rewritten or retconned, as he was never even contracted for a third film. "No, I'm not coming back. I think unfortunately, Heath [Ledger] was supposed to go on and that didn't work out. I'm nobody. I'm a cog. I have no say over this sort of stuff. I'm sure that there's so many other characters that they could whip together. I heard Angelina Jolie was going to be Catwoman or something like that. I thought that was a great idea. I'd like to be in that one."
Dent's death has now been confirmed via the novelization, the script, the actor, and the director. Though I would say that's as definitive as it gets, fanboys and girls across this great Internet refuse to accept it -- they just believe in Harvey Dent too much. But since we do live in a world where no comic character stays dead, where 299 Spartans can rise again, and Chev Chelios survives a fall from a helicopter, I guess you can hardly blame them.

Okay, so Eckhart isn't signed on. Fine. I believe it. However, and this is one big HOWEVER, Chris Nolan himself has not been signed on yet, AND there is no script! So how can we even speculate on the future of Harvey Dent?
It sounds like, that going into production on TDK, Nolan intended for Joker's arc to continue, but obviously things have changed. Nolan has to go back to the drawing board with part 3.
I'll believe he's not in it when Nolan says "I've finished the script, and Dent's not in it." Or God forbid Brett Ratner says "I've finished the script, and Dent's in it, along with Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Sandman, Magneto, Abomination, Green Goblin, and Lex Luthor."

I still dont believe it... Batman cant kill harvey dent (and he deffinatly pushed him off that ledge) that goes against everything i know... maybe Nolan Was telling eckhart that harvey dent is dead but two face is alive and kicking, you know like now there is no going back to his good guy ways, like if batman gave up his bruce wayne persona or supes gave up clark kent

HARVEY DENT is dead... doesn't mean Two Face is dead. Mr. Nolan is quite the sneaky guy. Why would any of them ever release that kind of information? Just adding fuel to the fire...
'Its all part of the plan...'

All this Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp rumors will be scattered to pieces when an unexpected bomb is dropped on who the next villain is, that's the way Nolan seems to work, he hates cliches. I am sorry Dent is gone, it would make a connection even if he was caught in the first ten minutes like the Scarecrow was. Now he should make a little comeback, I like Cillian Murphy. But again, Nolan will find a way around it.

If Dent/Two-Face is dead, I'm even more excited for the director's cut of "the Dark Knight" on DVD since it will be the only way to get more of the character.

I'm thinking the mob banker becomes "changed" by his encounter with joker and the whole grenade in the mouth thing that he becomes black mask and takes over the underworld.

Ok for those who keep saying Harvey Dent is dead, not Two-Face, i hate to bust your bubble but half of Two-Face is Harvey Dent so in retrospect if Dent is dead so is Two-Face because the character runs on his two personality arc. Nolan will do a third so dont say it isnt happening till he signs he's going to, if not i dont even want a Batman 3. Nolan created a realistic Gotham, therefore in the real world dead people stay dead. Dent is gone, yes i know the arc is screwed because of Ledger's death but you dont need to bring in Two-Face to replace him. Not when you have The Riddler, The Mad Hatter, Catwoman, The Penguin, and other great villians from the comics waiting in the wing

It's gonna be hard to bring back Two-Face with half of him dead. Face it people, he ain't coming back. Never was, never will. How much more obvious does it need to be?

"I'm nobody. I'm a cog. "
--didn't Nolan state the exact opposite of this and say Joker was the cog to tell the greater story of the dark/white knights

You put "spoiler warning" in the body of this after a enormous headline that is the spoiler itself. Thanks?

Yeah I think if it comes from the horses mouth then He is dead. I just don't think He is dead in the world of the Batman He Dent is in either Blackgate Penitentiary or Arkham Asylum.
What I am saying the third film will make it so you think that Dent still is dead but if there ever is a fourth movie you will see Two-face. I know that there is a good chance that
two-face really could be dead but really two-face never got his moment to shine. So I really do not want to see him dead.
There is still so much left to be told about two-face that even though that Two-face might really have died I don't want to believe it only because like I said two-face never got his moment. Plus the way Two-face looked was really cool looking.
I my self would love to see Hush and there is a great story with Hush and Two-face. So why would you kill off Two-face.
To me if Two-face was to come out in the next movie it would be easy to tell people Dent never died just look at movies like Star Wars and When Luke finds out his dad is Vadar from Obi
Obi said Vadar killed Anakin when in reality Vadar is Anakin. Same think could be said about Two-face and Dent. Another way you could say He died would be a fake Autopsy report. Another way would be seeing as you never see his body at the funeral you could say the Joker killed him in the Hospital.
Seeing as that was the last place He was at.
There are so many ways to say He died and to Say He did not die. So I just have to have faith that Two-face still lives just because this version never was Two-face.

Confirmed by the director? As far as I know Christopher Nolan never said anything. This is just a quote from Aaron Eckhart that I don't even believe all that much.

So why can't the Joker come back? There are other talented actors! Besides, don't underestimate marketing in Hollywood; if there is money to be made in an iconic character, especially if it can be done well, then Frankenstein will rise again......... how many Bonds have they had, how many Clouseaus, how many Supermen......
