Ramis Confirms 'Ghostbusters 3' Talk and Apatow Connection

Well if you read our Five Ways to Make a Cool Ghostbusters Sequel -- and agreed with our take -- then you'll be happy to know that two of our wishes may soon come true. In an email to the Chicago Tribune, Harold Ramis confirmed all this brand new Ghostbusters 3 talk, and added a few other interesting nuggets of info. Check it out:"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we'll take it from there."
So for those who wanted the original stars to be involved, this does sound like good news -- except you're going to have to deal with the fact that they'll appear more as mentors and torch passers than anything else, which I'm personally fine with. And whether you like it or not, Apatow and his clan will probably be involved. Again, I think this is a good move ... but surprisingly most of you thought otherwise. We shall have fun debating this one for a good while, huh?

Let's face it, the original cast is OLD. Using them as the Ghostbusters would look like a Space Cowboys action flick..it'd be like revisiting the G1 transformers cartoon to find that the animation isn't as good as we thought it was.
I'm glad they're continuing the franchise rather than doing a reboot. Looking forward to it!

Does this mean that someone will be playing Oscar? Is he on the team too?

GOOD CALL!! I never really thought about that, Ican see maybe someone like Seann William Scott playing Oscar but I have a horrible feeling we're gonna see a return of the cast of Superbad (Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse with the addition of someone like Keenan Thompson to fill-out the 4th spot)

I can't help but wonder why you need new cast members. Look at movies like Rambo and Indiana Jones. The main cast came back and are older and they looked like they could hold the film. May be the movies were not as great as people would have liked them to be but they were still good. So I see no reason the main cast could not star again.

i honestly disagree with all u guys except for whoever just posted about the main cast could not star again. sorry i don't know your name there but however your right there is no reason why the main cast will not star again. chances are they will all reprise their roles. and i think i know the reason of why they are making ghostbusters 3 soon. it's because now that they are showing most of these movies in imax they probably wanted to make a movie in that kindof form. that totally makes sense. not that i blame them. it's a great idea. so what if it's been years since the first 2. at least the best thing they will do right now is just try the best they can to make this happen and make this movie really interesting. all we gotta do is give the filmmakers alot of credit. the only way the filmmakers make a good movie is only if they try their best. no matter how hard they try lets at least give them credit for it.
