Watch This: Seven Minutes of 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'

While it doesn't arrive in theaters until December, Fox feels pretty confident in their The Day the Earth Stood Still remake -- so much so that they aired roughly seven and a half minutes of footage last night during a repeat of the Fringe pilot. Seems a bit odd to show that much footage this far in advance of the film's release date, but apparently Fox wants to build good buzz now ... and, thankfully, it would appear the film warrants it.
The footage (which you can see after the jump) is not comprised of one, long extended scene. Instead, we're taken through a whole bunch of scenes from what would appear to be the first half of the film, with some playing out a bit longer than others. Essentially, The Day the Earth Stood Still tells of an alien visitor (Keanu Reeves) and a giant robot who land on earth and turn the place upside down. Jennifer Connelly, Jaden Smith, Kathy Bates and John Cleese also star. Check out the seven-minute clip after the jump.
The Day the Earth Stood Still hits theaters on December 12.

You know...it really doesn't interest me in the slightest. Keanu just doesn't bring enough to any of his roles. It's like watching paint dry. And sure...I get that he got to act somewhat subdued in this kinda performance....but that's just what we get from him out of whatever role he plays anyway. Not my kind of flick.

The official trailer is too short to tell how this movie might be. But it does look cool so far.
I still cannot understand the thought process of these production companies in acting like trailer Nazis and not allowing the people who would potentially see their movie to watch a trailer on sites like youtube.
Really, who complains about free advertising?

Still reserving judgment. I'm not keen on the casting and I'd like to see certain elements from the original story either preserved or even further emphasized (i.e., Gort), but this preview makes me say "hm." But never mind, it's a Fox movie and I've vowed not to support them until they've stopped messing around, anyway.

Keanu? Are you for real? Are there NO middle-aged, distinguished American actors who could fill this role? Michael Rennie was perfect in the 1951 version. I just don't think these "younger" actors bring much creditability to Hollywood these days. Beverly Hills 90210 was a long time ago and we need to grow up now. I liked Keanu in The Matrix but he's grown very plain since.
Like Sundance said, bring on the paint.

Heh, so 44 is "younger"? He'll be pleased to hear that. Or is it that he has less gravitas so he plays younger?

Looks like a made for TV movie. Reminds me of X-Files. Everybody is too serious, the original version had a human cast.

This looks badass to me. You got like sci fi thrillers though. I didn't know Keanu bothered that many people. He's not my favorite but damn. A lot of these people judge to harshly for only seeing a few parts of the movie. You have to see the ending to judge. Come on guys, everybody knows that.

Keanu takes alot of crap for being a slacker at the begining of his career but to me he has made interesting choices , personaly Daniel Day -lewis , marlon brando , jack nicolson , are some of my favs but Keanu is up there for me he has something it's more stoic and deep ,He's not some dumb air head like people think but thats his rep but there are people like me that feel Keanu has good qualities and i find other actors that have won oscars bland , his the underdog but he has his fans and even the haters will see his movies and life goes on ...

Why can't they leave a top scifi film alone? View the original.
Trailer looks like a cross between 4th of July and the remake of Wells Hallowen night radio show. This will not hold up to the original !!
