The 'Meat Train' Stops in Your Living Room
Filed under: Horror, Lionsgate Films, Home Entertainment
Just about a year ago, Comcast's FEARnet video-on-demand service dug into the Lionsgate vault and pulled out Catacombs, which they offered at no charge on their VOD network. Turns out the flick wasn't all that hot, but hey, horror fans love to see stuff for free ... especially if it hasn't been released on video just yet.So this year FEARnet is doing it again -- only this time it's a movie that did have a (rather insultingly) limited theatrical release. Like, VERY limited. Yes, gore-fans, Ryuhei Kitamura's adaptation of Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train may very well be viewable in your own living room -- at this very moment! (If you get FEARnet on your cable box, that is...) Last year Catacombs was also made available on the FN website prior to its DVD release, but we don't know if that will be the case on Meat Train. Lionsgate has yet to announce a DVD date for the film, so anything could happen.
Best of all, unlike Catacombs, I've already seen and have strongly recommended this particular horror movie -- and I certainly wouldn't sneeze at the source material either. For our earlier reports on this strangely controversial little horror flick, check here, here and here.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't then come to DVD. It would be silly to put it on a TV channel no one has and forget about it. Not when they came make money off of the DVD's Fearnet frequently advertises on. Not to mention the streaming version they can pop on Netflix the same week.
The reputation and hype for this movie couldn't go any higher, they need to capitalize on it before it collapses. People get tired of waiting.

Isn't capitalizing on the hype exactly what FEARnet is doing? Sure, they aren't the DVD distributor, but they'll make back overhead exhibition costs in the advertising the network brings in because of it.
FEARnet is the closest anyone has come to playing the Midnight Meat Train card right yet.

Agreed. At least they are doing SOMEthing with it. It would just benefit me more if it went straight-to-DVD :D
For those who have the channel, congratulations!
Perhaps they'll stream it on their site for non-subscribers? I doubt that too, but I'm sure I'll get to see it eventually.

Thank you Peter. That's what I needed to know. Time Warner Digital Cable offered these free On-Demand shows, but I wisely escaped from them for DirecTV. I will definitely have to watch this on their site.

i had some friends over to watch this last night and we would all disagree with your recommendation - it was a terrible movie. and this is from people who like bad horror flicks.

I watched it last night and while it was enjoyable anyone that enjoys Clive Barker will see through the plot well before the climax. I'd give it a B- not great but didn't suck.
