Would You Rather: 'Friday the 13th' to Arrive on Halloween or Friday the 13th?
Unfortunately, when it comes to Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, we've come to that inevitable time in the life of a horror franchise when folks start thinking about remakes. Last year brought Rob Zombie's not-so-hot remake of Halloween, and now a brand new Friday the 13th remake is set to debut in theaters on February 13th, 2009. The first teaser trailer for Friday the 13th (directed by Marcus Nispel, the guy behind The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and the much buzzed-about Amy Grant: Building the House of Love) arrived in bootleg form yesterday, but now you can see a brand new (and different) crystal (lake) clear version after the jump, courtesy of MySpace. Go ahead, I'll wait ...
Creepy mother's voice? Check. Teenage girl running scared through the woods? Check. Lots of darkness? Check. Jason, in full hockey mask, running after a victim? Um ... check? We missed you Jason! I just wish we could've celebrated Halloween together, instead of having to spend another year with that Halloween ball-hog Jigsaw. And that's what we want to know today: Of course it would be ideal for a Friday the 13th movie to be released on a Friday, October 13th so that it would fall right in line with that creeptacular holiday and all, but since that's not always an option, would you rather a Friday the 13th movie come out around Halloween or on an actual Friday the 13th? Which is cooler? Which helps better set the spooky mood?
Sound off below. (And in case you're wondering how many Friday the 13th films actually opened on Friday the 13th, then stick around because we've got something special planned in a little bit ...)

I wouldn't want it to open ANYTIME near Halloween, because everything else does. There are 365 days a year, last time I counted them out, so if you stuff every horror movie you have into October, it is physically impossible to sort through all of the crap to find the one good one. Not to mention, no one wants to go to the theater that often (If you're a horror fan). Especially if you're stuck with only AMC and Regal to choose from in your area.
Anyway, as far as the trailer goes, I can't tell, because all I saw was flashes of people screaming. I hope that isn't the one that will run with Saw 5. My other concern is, why call this Friday the 13th? They couldn't have come up with anything better to make it stand out more? If it isn't a direct remake (It seems to combine multiple movies, or fill in between, who knows), why call it as such? Call it Friday the 13th, 2009 or something.

Looks good. It certainly hits all the right notes anyhow.
Despite a few easy jabs and the inevitability of remakes, I think this is a good property for it. The film certainly doesn't have a high bar it needs to live up to... It was a cheesy slasher franchise from the word go. Something like Halloween I can see coming a little closer under the microscope, a legendary director created a legendary film that was subsequently marred by substandard sequels and an unnecessary reboot from a man legendary in his own rite. This is a different story though, despite a wide fan base and a generous helping of nostalgia, the Jason series never really achieved greatness, despite its iconic villain. Hell, the guy doesn't even have that "Only one person could EVER play him" stigma that his pal Freddy does, so if anything from the 80's staple of horror flicks is deserving of a little less remake flak, it's this.
That said, I have no such prejudice regarding Freddy myself. I loved Englund and while I'm sure some decent makeup, a few stunt doubles and maybe a little digital polish could keep him in the role, I won't fool myself into believe no other person on the planet could bring as much or more energy to the role as he did. That's nonsense. Different does not always equal bad.
As for the topic at hand, of course a Friday October 13th would be ideal (though a fair sized crowed would react the same way those Omen deriders did, shouting "You made the movie JUST to meet a release date??) but barring that, Friday the 13th, ANY Friday the 13th would be more ideal then a Halloween release date, simply because it's a "spooky time of year"

I WILL SAY THAT THE TRAILER TALKS A GOOD GAME, I JUST HOPE THE DIRECTOR DELIVERS AND GIVES MR. VOORHEES A PROPER WELCOME BACK. I ALSO HAVE TO SAY THAT I LOVED ALL THE OLD MOVIES. IT'S ALWAYS A BLAST TO SEE HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS THAT JASON COULD WASTE THOSE IDIOT KIDS. HERE'S HOPING.
