The 'Boondock Saints' Sequel is Officially a Go
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Independent, Remakes and Sequels
Few recent films have as loyal a fanbase as does Troy Duffy's The Boondock Saints. I'm not sure if that's proper English, but you get the point. Boondock fans (or, as I like to call them as of this minute, Boondoggies) have been SURE that Duffy was starting in on a Part 2 several times over the past few years -- but they were wrong. Now they're right.According to The Hollywood Reporter, which reports on things from Hollywood, "principal photography has started in Toronto on Troy Duffy's sequel to the 2000 indie." Yes, Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery are coming back to reprise their roles. Also back on board are Billy Connolly and David Della Rocco. Other cast members will include Clifton Collins, Julie Benz, and Bob Marley. (Hey, that's what it says.)
Notably missing from the sequel report is the participation of Harvey Weinstein, who famously set Troy Duffy up with a sweet deal and then gave the first-timer just enough rope to hang himself with. (For more on the original Boondock back-story, we turn to the lord Wiki.) Producer Chris Brinker has this to say about the project: ""We expect this film to be a truly intense, humorous and satisfying film for all those who have looked forward to the sequel for so long." Which make sense since those folks are the only ones who'll go see it.

I'd wish Duffy bad luck, but I don't think he needs my help.

The original is totally a love it or hate it movie. My brother gave the DVD to me as a gift, telling me how awesome it was. I watched it and thought it was one of the worst movies I'd seen in a long time. The Willem Dafoe character was just WAY too over the top for me.

First off, Bob Marley is the name of one of the actors in the movie who plays a cop, not a superimposed version of the dead reggae singer, so it's not really a big deal. imdb.com works wonders.
Secondly, Boondock Saints is a great movie with a ton of quotable lines and really great story. Even the end credits are great! I can't imagine why someone wouldn't like it. The long awaited sequel finally being made is awesome!
And, Jim, Dafoe's character is awesome because he's so over the top! It's a shame he won't be in the sequel, it's not like he's doing anything.
Oh and Julie Benz... niiice.

Why?!
I violently dislike the original, and was hoping that Troy Duffy's career suicide would stick.

Watching Boondock Saints right now for maybe the fourth time. This movie is brilliant. It is philosophical, bloody, and Willem Dafoe just makes the movie -- not just for his over-the-top style but the character's brainpower makes us all feel a little smarter. it's hard to believe Duffy can follow-this up, though. Sequels almost always suck.

I hope this "Mike" guy wakes up. Look at what's going on in the world today. Look at all the stuff that is on daily news and in the newspaper practically every morning. This world is a terrible place to live. I find myself, (a retired US Navy sailor) to absolutely love this movie.

I'm really pissed off the William Dafoe isnt gonna be in the Boondock Saints II : All Saints Day.
Bob Marley was Detective Greenly, the idiot that was making possibilites of the crime and keeps getting coffee and bagels for William Dafoe's character.
and what really pisses me off is that everyones posting that David Della Rocco's back in which i dont understand because did he not get shot in the origional before the dad walked in when they were being beaten?
exactly.
also, i really kinda don't wanna see this movie, its like Dark Knight.. theres a one in a million chance that you can beat it.. but, hell, if anyone can do it, i hope its Troy Duffy.
Boondock Saints is the greatest movie of all time.
and im done,
peace.
