Bruckheimer Talks 'Pirates 4', 'Lone Ranger' and More!

Cinematical had a chance to chat up Jerry Bruckheimer earlier today while in London visiting the set of a really big Disney film that we can't talk much about ... yet. However, while there our small group of dedicated online writers pressed The Bruck on his upcoming projects -- most notably Pirates of the Caribbean 4, The Lone Ranger, and National Treasure 3. Regarding National Treasure 3 and Pirates 4 (which he says is eying a 2012 release as of right now), those scripts are being worked on as we speak. Of course IMAX and 3-D technology was part of the discussion, and it was not ruled out. Says Bruck, "Absolutely. I'd love to do it, so let's just see if we can work it through the production schedule with everything else." Additionally, while Johnny Depp has officially signed on to star in The Lone Ranger as Tonto, rumors George Clooney snagged the lead role as The Lone Ranger were quickly dismissed by Bruckheimer: "We haven't decided who is going to play the Lone Ranger yet. Get a director first and then figure it out." We'll have so much more from London and from this "really giganto Disney film" at a later date. (And trust me, you will definitely want to read that story.)

National Treasure 3! This is the best news of the year! I mean National Treasure was an amazing film. I didn't think it could get any better than that. And then it did! National Treasure 2 is without a doubt one of the top ten greatest films of all time. When I saw the scene in the room filled with water, and they didn't know what to do, and then they were like "hey let's push this big wheel in the middle of the room," that's when I new this series was destined for greatness. I'm still waiting for AFI to update their top 100 list.

That's very stupid that Johnny Depp is playing Tonto. I realize that he claims to have Cherokee ancestry, but give the role to a real American Indian actor. I'm not knocking on his acting abilities, but I thought Hollywood was past the point of having whites and Italians playing American Indians. It's an insult to the great Indian actors out there that could play the part of Tonto very well. Eddie Spears stands out as a perfect actor for the role. Wes Studi if you're wanting an older version of Tonto. Michael Spears and Adam Beach are two other notables. Then again, this is Hollywood, they only care about the money and don't care about doing anything right.

Bongo123, you are right. Having Jake Gyllenhall (sp?) playing the Prince of Perisa is silly. I guess I was just giving Hollywood the benefit of the doubt since American Indians have been getting some of the roles to play American Indians. *Sigh*

Deppppp what are you doooooing???? Seriously? You're gonna claim Cherokee ancestry and then bring back one of the most annoying stereotypical tropes of the old westerns?? We ain't gonna claim you if you play us like that! Dang. I'd prefer the Lone Ranger Rides Again just not be made period. This is embarrassing. Disney already ruined my childhood with "Pocahontas" (try to brush that one off when you're the only Native in your school, if someone tells me to paint with the wind one more time.........) and now THIS???!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYY???!!!!
