The Scary Bits: Mandy Lane, Book of Blood & Paranormal Activity
Filed under: Horror, The Scary Bits

Time for a new horror series on FEARnet.com! This one's called The Dark Path Chronicles, and it comes from director Mary Lambert. And if I have to remind you that she directed the first Pet Sematary, then I question your legitimacy as a horror geek. So far they've posted two episodes and a pair of behind-the-scenes clips. All I know is that it's got vampires in it!
...and the journey of Mandy Lane continues. Screen Daily reports that Sony has acquired the video rights to all of Senator's upcoming releases, and that also includes Clock Tower, Splice, and the Bret Easton Ellis adaptation The Informers. Also from Screen Daily: News on the excellent Paranormal Activity, which is getting sold all over the planet and (yes) being remade.
Curious about that Jason Voorhees documentary you've been hearing about? Get the scoop here. Also, Twitch indicates that the sequel to the fantastic [REC] begins shooting next week. Did you miss the trailer for the next Clive Barker adaptation. Jessica covered it yesterday: Book of Blood.
And frankly there are so many random little tidbits floating around thanks to all the horror geeks' coverage of the American Film Market ... I don't even know where to begin. Instead of linking to each news niblet individually, I'll link you to the AFM ONLY pages at Dread Central, Bloody-Disgusting, and Shock. Lots of random goodness to click through there, horror nerds.
Random question for the experts: Which is the scariest video game?

"... and Composer Harry Manfredini, creator of Jason’s signature musical cue "Sh-sh-sh-sh, ha-ha-ha-ha."
This is the one unanswered question I've had about the series. How did Manfredini come up with that? It's so simple, but no 13th movie would be complete without it. I have been looking forward to this documentary... there aren't any horror documentaries worth watching, this one will be.

I will never be more scared playing a game than I was with The 7th Guest. Whole nights of sleep were swallowed by that game as a child. That said, it wouldn't scare the Pope these days. I think age has more to do with being truly scared while playing a game than anything. I was less than 10 playing 7th Guest and it still remains my most prominent memory of interactive fear.
Lately there have been all kinds of choices, but my recommendation would be to pick up Dead Space. Shit in that game will blow your mind.

I missed the italicized end question. I will second your Dead Space recommendation. There are parts of the game that are a bit frustrating (No way to finish it without a FAQ, because some things you have to do are plain silly... like getting a dude to stand in place while you press a button a room away), but ultimately, what makes this game scarier than all others is its presentation.
The sound is amazing. I was frequently creeped out, and with surround sound, you will be too. Every slam from the other room, ever moan and groan from a dying monster sends chills down your spine. And above all else, the singing woman in a level near the end of this game (You never see her) is the scariest thing I faced in the entire game!! More than any monster, an invisible woman singing nursery rhymes is freaking creepy.
Also the technical aspects of this game are top notch, and in some cases, revolutionary. This is one of the 1st games to embrace No-HUD (On screen menus and health bars) in a way that makes a ton of sense. Also, the way monsters come at you or surprise you is even better than Bioshock. One even rode an elevator UP to MY level to meet me. Scared the crap out of me, but I smiled afterward, at how clever these guys are.
I have not seen the Dead Space: Downfall direct-to-disc feature yet, but I will in the next month. And I'm sure with the future movies based on this, and the sequels, this is going to be a huge series. I just hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle of crappy games that will be released this season. They need to release a demo, I think, to give people that Bioshock-like holy cow moment. With Bioshock, I was out there the next day preordering. That game was mind-blowingly good.

How about the blueprint for Dead Space... Bioshock. Scary in more than one way.
I think both are already optioned for feature films though.
Dead Space was made with multiple forms of media in mind.
