McG to Direct Beyonce in Wonder Woman?
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Casting, Warner Brothers, RumorMonger, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek
While the Internet was frantically reporting that Megan Fox was at the head of the line to play the Amazon superheroine, Beyonce was quietly meeting with representatives from Warner Bros and DC trying to nab the role for herself. Hero Complex sat down with the megastar, who gushed about the recent superhero trend, noting that "they're not corny at all," and how badly she would like to be a part of them. "I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It's time for that, right?"
Her one misgiving is the costume which, despite her fantastic figure, she admits is incredibly unforgiving. "I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume. The way that Lynda Carter wore it, she was so fine. She was amazing. I saw her costume at the Met. Her waist was unbelievable. It was pretty crazy, actually, her proportions. But I love Wonder Woman and it'd be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy."
I'm not opposed to the idea of a black Wonder Woman, but I haven't been overly impressed with Beyonce's roles yet. Plus, she is so well known that she might actually do the impossible: outshine the iconic Wonder Woman. When it comes to bold choices, I would much rather see Rosario Dawson, Kerry Washington, or Zoe Saldana nab the part. I can see any of them clanking the Gauntlets of Atlas with more authority than Beyonce. But I'll turn it over to you -- do you see Beyonce as Wonder Woman? Or are you hoping Marvel just breaks down and hires Fox?
Then, in other news, IESB reports through their sources that Warner Bros. is interested in McG as director for Wonder Woman. That said, when we spoke to Joel Silver on the set of Sherlock Holmes last week (more on that later), he didn't have much of an update on Wonder Woman, only that it's still in development and they "just haven't found the right way to do it yet." He added, "Hopefully we can soon, though, and make it."

Im sorry, shes an "OK" singer @ Best... but acting... Come, On!
...i gotta be honest, This movie would TANK, bigtime. everything with Beyonce is a blank stare, shes not a convincing singer, let alone an Actress... if DC or WB gave her the ok, it would Flop. Period.
...a wonder woman of color, yea, cool idea...but Beyonce is NOT that woman. not even H. Berry...and she was OK as Storm...
...i would not Support Beyonce as the lead in this movie. The movie would Tank.

A while back there was a rumor that Priyanka Chopra was being considered for the part. Though now it seems that is a no go I still wish it was true.
As for Beyonce, she is just not a good actress ans has no business carrying a movie by herself.

I could so Rosario Dawson in the role. Maybe even Kerry Washington. But not Zoe Saldana. She's too frail and unbelievable in the role of a super hero. Cheerleader, cranky pirate--that's more her style.

Have to agree with sidekick up there.... except I don't think Beyonce is even OK as a singer, and that Berry was TERRIBLE as Storm.
I said something similar for Catwoman rumours a while back, but why not someone like Aishwarya Rai or Lisa Ray if you want to add some colour to the role? Both are better actresses than Beyonce, and have a better look for the role. One might say they aren't big enough names (at least in the US) to open a movie, but a few commercials and trailers with either of them in the costume would bring out the fanboys in droves.

As far as acting, I'd go with Rosario as I wouldn't want someone to just "act hot." But then maybe they should find an unknown with a waist like Lynda Carter.
Oh and she HAS TO BE at least 5'9".

I don't care what ethnicity the actress is, but I would like someone who can handle a lead role ... with authority, please. (And, yes, someone with some stature would be a plus.) I'm really (really) doubtful Beyonce can manage it ... especially after those gushy comments ... sigh ...

Sweet friggin' jeebus we elect Obama and all of a sudden everyone wants to start "change"ing superheroes. What the hell? Wonder Woman is WHITE!!!!! There's no black alternate WW like with Ultimate Nick Fury or that time Punisher went through surgery, why, why, why? It's got to be the most retarded thing hollywood's come up with since Ratner is directing Conan!

Since there aren't many black superheroes that are well known, why not give those who aren't white in skin color a chance to be in superhero movie roles for once? Why discriminate who you choose as an actress because of her skin color? It has nothing to do with Obama, what you're saying comes across pretty clearly, that you do not want a black woman playing a fictional character. Are you that ridiculous? A comic book character. Seriously.
I guess I'll always have to fill the role as the Beyonce defender, not only because I thoroughly respect her music and acting in the few films she has been in. Everyone else here can keep downplaying it, but she's pretty successful for a reason. She can play whatever she wants to play, because I don't judge a book by their cover. Odds are, none of you have watched the full length of even one of her movies (And ones starring Mike Myers don't count at all).

Oh dear lord please no. Wonder Woman is an Amazon Princess... that makes her ethnicity pretty decidedly Greek.
Not to mention my total lack of confidence in her ability to act the role. There's a lot to Diana; she's constantly struggling to reconcile the ethics of the gods with the world of man. She's one of the few DC superheroes who has actually killed someone (on purpose) in the course of her duty... and at the same time, she remains an indisputable symbol for good. It's going to take a pretty savvy actor to really get a handle on her... not to mention a great script.

i'm still holding out for joss whedon to write it. i trust that man to do it properly. Gina Torres could do a good Wonder Woman or Morena Baccarin. it depends on how old they're willing to go. i doubt the race factor really matters in the comic book world. i actually prefer the black green lantern to the original white one.

Thanks, Claire...
I was all set to engage in the discussion, but instead I think I will Google images of Morena Baccarin.

And for what it's worth, Lynda Carter could still totally pull off an Amazon. For my money, you couldn't ask for a better Queen Hippolyta.

I think Deanna Russo should play Wonder Woman. She play's Sarah Greiman on that new Knight Rider show. She's tall, thin, has dark brunette hair, and has very pretty blue eye's just like Linda Carter.
I know she's an unknown but how about giving an unknown actress a chance. I just don't see Megan Fox portraying Wonder Woman. She's way too short. Besides you need someone a bit taller.

I heard about the option of Beyonce as wonder woman from my boyfriend before I read this article and the first thing I said to him was "she's black and she can't act!"...and I'm part black myself.
I think its important to stay authentic to the comic and tv series by having a tall white woman with darker features and naturally dark hair...no wigs or dye for this flick.
I don't think this one should go to Megan Fox either, she's got enough popularity. They nedd to give an unknown a chance like they did for the series, which worked out very well. Also, look how well it worked for Superman Returns, Brandon Routh looks just like Reeve and I thought he did an amazing job.
I am honestly ready to give up on this movie being made. It's been in talks since 2003 and they've already gone through 4-6 different directiors & writers....who knows if this thing will ever happen?

Cheap? I think this year has proven that you can make good comic book movies, no matter what budget. High or low, it's entirely possible, so long as the story is there, and the material doesn't come off as being ripped from the page of a comic book.

Sorry I can't say you won your case there MCW. Both Hulks were a disaster. Xmen 2 and 3 were horrible. The Punisher, Daredevil, and Elektra all bad. All had big budgets and movies still came out cheap thrills. The industry tries to make movies around their stars figuring it will bring them box office success. The storylines are always shot. Granted there are exceptions (TDK, Iron Man) but most cases they're horrible adapted storylines.
Hollywierd still has a long way to go to make comic book storylines 'great' in my opinion.
