Halloween Costume Contest: You Vote for the Winner!
Filed under: Site Announcements, Fandom, Contests

Before we begin, let me just say that our little Halloween Costume Contest received a record turnout this year, and it's taken some time for our team of crack judges to narrow down the field to ten finalists in each of the two categories. 2008 was by far the toughest year yet, and all of us here at Cinematical were amazed to see the creativity, passion, love and just plain movie geekdom that went into all of these costumes. Unfortunately, we couldn't make everyone a finalist as there were only ten spots available in the adult category and child category, but we feel our selections represent the best of the best. From all of us here at the site to all of you out there -- thank you for participating, thank you for reading and thank you for being a fan. Now, onto the voting!
Here's how this works: Below you will see a photo gallery for each category. Within each photo gallery, there are ten images which represent each finalist alongside a number and the character they're dressed up as. Below each gallery there is a poll listing the numbers and characters as per the order they show up in their gallery (note: this order is random). We need you to look through each gallery, then vote for who you feel has the best costume in the polls. Got it? Good.
The Adult Finalists are listed below, and the Kid Finalists are listed after the jump (along with the prizing and official rules). We'll keep the voting open through Friday. Good luck!

LOL, those were great. It was going to be Optimus Prime for me on the adults until I saw Two-Face.
It was actually harder to pick one for the kids... couple of 'em were REALLY cute but I had to give it to Mr. T. :-)

Max Rebo and the Lego Indiana Jones were great ideas, but not well executed. The Joker looked awesome as did Ymir. But i have to give it to Two-Face. I think his make-up looks better than the stupid CG did in the movie. He is scarier and looks more realistic/plausible than the movie version.

On the kids side... the Joker looks good, but i sincerely hope that kid didn't watch the movie, and it creeps me out that a parent would dress their kid up as the Joker.
I also love the costume of a costume idea for Boo from Monsters Inc, but the Buzz Lightyear gets creativity points too, and wins on execution.

optimus prime rocks my world. that costume looks like it could actually transform, albeit the resulting truck would be on the small side. nonetheless, totally amazing.

At first I thought Lego Indy was Twinkie the Cowboy.

OK I'm going to call shenanigans on a couple of these. The joker looks way too real. And where is his neck? Looks closely and you can see that he has a slight "halo" around his hair. This is evidence of photoshop blending. Disqualified. And Optimus Prime? How can a human body fit inside that thing? That's not a costume it's a statue. Disqualified. Two Face and Ymir look like professional make-up jobs, so they're disqualified in my mind too.
I say give it to the Ghostbusters. This guy put a lot of effort into an obviously home-made stay-puft costume, and even though his girl probably store-bought that ghostbusters outfit (or stole it from a Titans cheerleader), she looks good in it.
The kids are where the brilliance lies. Big points for Buzz Lightyear, Boo, and Fred and Wilma who might be the cutest kids ever.

Two face was definately photoshop, you would be able to see see a bulging eye in even with prostetics. Not real. Joker was was also obviously photoshopped onto some dudes body.

Two-face you get my vote. It's obviously a wonderfully done makeup application, you can't see the bulging eye because the face is added to as well so you can't blatantly tell its fake. Notice how his browlines are different dimensions?
Learn some serious make up tips before you go around claiming people's costumes aren't real!
ps: You can tell some of those children were just put in those costumes without really knowing what it is, child Joker? Frodo? Mr. T? No child would willingly want this costume. My vote goes to Boo for cuteness!

Mr. T's mom here! I want to say awsome job to all the kids... WOW so many great ideas amazing execution. I made Mr. T's Mohawk from a bald cap and black yarn, it took about a week. We used plenty of gold spray paint! What you can't see is the muscle suit and the bad attitude he played the part well. Yes, he knows who Mr. T is and yes that is who he wanted to dress up as well not so Mr. T but B.A. Baracus he's a huge A-Team fan he watches reruns on Chicago's ME TV with his dad. Once again everyone did an amazing job adults and kids.

This is the Ymir. Thanks to all the people who voted for me! One person noted here in the comments that several of us, including me, were professional make-up jobs, and therefore should be disqualified. I just figured I would set the record straight on that one, at least as far as I'm concerned.
My day job is serving in the Army. I've never done any FX makeup stuff aside from Halloween costumes. I made the costume out of plumber tubing (tail), clay (each horn was hand made, and painted), fishnet tights/shirt/gloves, and tons of liquid latex and paint. Even the facial prosthetic and teeth were heavily modified. I had to shave my entire body to prepare, then cover myself in liquid latex, and paint. It took about 12 hours to put the costume on. This picture does not do it justice. If you want to, you can look up some videos of me on youtube -- one is a pretty funny music video and the other is a little scarier.

I hope you all like it. Thanks to Cinematical for choosing me to be on the finalists! You guys are awesome. Thanks for running a great site and always having such great costume contests.
