It's Official: Jaden Smith is The New 'Karate Kid'
Filed under: Action, Casting, Scripts, Family Films, Remakes and Sequels
Will Smith is certainly prepping his son for superstardom. Jaden Smith starred with dad in The Pursuit of Happyness, grabbed an Amulet, signed on for The Day the Earth Stood Still, and is now definitely taking on the world of the Karate Kid. At this rate, he'll hit the big leagues a good decade before his pop did, although nothing quite compares with starting your career as the Fresh Prince.Just over a year ago, there was a rumor that the project was coming together, and all these months later, it's now been confirmed by Variety. The untitled remake is being penned by Chris Murphy, with plans to shoot next year in Beijing and other cities. Not much is being said about the plot, but it looks like this is merely taking the theme of the film, rather than the story. It's leaving the confines of the US, has got a much younger star, and "will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor."
Are you into a 10-year-old karate kid standing up for himself in Beijing? Weigh in below!

If all they're supposedly taking is the theme, call it something else for crying out loud. Don't sully the name of the Karate Kid with this garbage.

While I'm happy for the Pinket-Smith household on this one, I can't help but think of what a BOMB Star Wars Ep:1 was with the 10-year old Anakin.
The story needs to be about older kids. 10-year olds in fight scenes don't really work that well.

Sounds like a feel good summer type of thing. Still, I gotta know who's gonna be playing Miyagi now.

.....hell the f*ck nooooooo....Hollywood is like that bully in High school..does what he wants and doesn't really care what others think, picks on the gulliable and weak, steals your money, talks a lot of shit, and is one of those guys that just needs his ass kicked just to be shown a lesson and bring him down to size...with all that being said, this will be targeted to the 14 and under age group, so i don't really take it that serious..just another kiddie flic, its just sad that this trash has to be connected with the originals in some form.

Well I can say I will not see this movie. I was a fan of the Karate Kid movies more so the first two daniel Son. Plus the one guy is dead God rest his soul. So really this is not a Karate Kid movie. Plus Jaden Smith really is a bad actor. He is nothing like his dad.
May be if Will wants him to follow in his foot steps Will should put Jaden in some acting classes and may in a few years down the line He might be good. But if He keeps making movies from now on Jaden will never get better at acting and so he will fail as an actor.
So to me this is bad new becuase a old movie I liked is getting remade. Plus with a kid that can't act if his life was on the line.
So I will not be seeing this movie.

I think he's a tad too young for the role...they should wait a few years. Or not make it at all.

Will is a great father figure and he looks awesome. I read here (http://www.projectweightloss.com/index.php) about how he managed to lose weight and then gain weight for the movies he was staring in. How does he find the time to “coach” his son with so many hours a day working out in the gym?
