New 'Watchmen' Trailer Has Arrived!
Filed under: Action, Drama, Fandom, Movie Marketing, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Images, Trailers and Clips

In what's truly been a fun week for marketing battles, Watchmen and Star Trek square off one more time this weekend, with each debuting a brand new trailer. Warner Bros. is first out of the gate with their Watchmen trailer arriving on Yahoo this evening. As for Star Trek, audiences will get to watch (and record illegally before uploading to YouTube, no doubt) the new Star Trek trailer in theaters before Quantum of Solace prior to its online debut this Monday.
In the meantime, feast your eyes on the glorious Watchmen trailer below. What do you think of it compared to the other trailers? Is it better? Worse? I'm certainly diggin' what I've seen so far, but my only worry is whether Snyder will be able to accurately capture the wide scope and philosophical undertones of this beast. Nothing against Snyder at all, but there's a reason why folks have had a hard time adapting this behemoth of a graphic novel. Based on this trailer, though, things do look damn good. Check out our recap of a half hour of Watchmen footage over here, and there are a couple galleries worth of images and posters for you to surf through below. Watchmen hits theaters on March 6, 2009.

Cool looking. Though...I'm kinda not liking Rosarch's raspy voice.
Steel, must see.

That's what I've always imagined him sounding like, minus the bad hiss it was giving off.

I'm a total Watchmen geek, so what I've seen so far has amazed me. I'm a little bummed to know some of the things that have been trimmed out, but I understand why that had to happen.
At least we'll always have the motion comics, as well as ya know, the book.

what are these motion comics you speak of?

They're on Amazon and iTunes, they're $2 a pop. Each one is a 30 minute long animated issue of the comic. There are four of them out now, so they just finished the Dr. Manhattan issue. Definitely worth checking out.

Rosarch seems to be channeling his inner Batman with that rasp. I didn't really like the use of the Phillip Glass music. I liked the Smashing Pumpkins from the other trailer. Still looking forward to the film though.

Hmm. I dont know.
I did imagine Dr. Manhattan to have a deeper calmer voice, more god like. Hes so whiny in the trailer, that's disappointing.
Music didnt fit IMHO. Im not as excited for this as I once was. I guess we shall see.

utterly amazing!! so many things are spot on with the graphic novel. I don't believe that this will be an exact recarnation of the novel to film, nor should anyone else, but it will be damn close. The changes that are said to have been made i can live with, and totally understand why they needed to be changed for a film version of the WATCHMEN..focus on the positive 90% and fuck the other 10% which is made up of mainly the squid not being there..i always found the squid to be lame as hell and felt that it made a serious, well executed, novel, rather corny.
I also did picture DOC's voice being a little deeper and rather cold, but thats such a minor thing, everything else is spot on!! my approval rate is still at 99%!!

WOW!
This trailer's use of Philip Glass's score from (the brilliant) KOYAANISQATSI is awe-inspiring. I liked the last trailer's use of The Smashing Pumpkins but this...is...light years away from that.
Way to go Zack!
If James Cameron didn't have AVATAR coming out next year then WATCHMEN would be far & away the most anticipated film of '09 but Cameron is Cameron & his work is impossible to take lightly.
What is the other music used here?

I think this is a slight step down from the previous trailer. Like the rest of you, I'm deeply concerned about Doc's voice, which I always imagined as deep and distant, kind of like Spock's.
I'm also concerned about the many (too many?) slow-to-fast shots in the action scenes. Is it me or is this technique becoming a fetish (or maybe crutch) for Snyder?

It pissed me off that Rorsarch call themselves 'The Watchmen' thats not what it means at all. Rorsarch was bit too Bale for me, while Jon's voice was much too whiny.

Yes, I *hate* that.
I really, really liked the way the book handled this, whereby the only time that the term "watchmen" was used was in the graffiti.
Having them refer to themselves as "watchmen" really sounds kinda dumb and X-men-like.

Didn't they refer to themselves as Minutemen in the book? I suppose the change to avoid confusion is pretty forgivable.

The haters are complaining that the movie doesn't fit their imagination? I too had imagined that they sounded different but it's way to egotistic to think that goes on in my mind is the shit.
So far, this is a great adaptation and I think the movie is going to rule. Watchmen is amazing.

Looks well made, but I'm going to have to admit I'm a good 70% less excited since Zack Snyder Admitted that the squid ending had been replaced with the pedestrian nuclear bomb threat. I'm sorry, but it's pretentious and arrogant to think that you need to re-write a story written by Alan Moore, a master of storytelling craft.
It opens up a huge can of worms... what about the great minds and artists going to that island to brainstorm? Surely a bomb threat is not what they would come up with, so I guess that cool subplot is gone. An alien threat, one outside our world, is what it would take to get the world to unite. Even Reagan said that when he addressed the UN. Explosions caused by Dr. Manhattan (who is totally out of character to be doing it) would look to the rest of the world as a US act, and therefore would not unite the world. I hope Snyder is bluffing, trying to create interest. I do not consider myself a comic book nut/fanboy (haven't bought a comic in at least 8 years, long since sold what I had), but I will not see this movie theatrically until I hear the squid ending is in there. It's not too absurd... the whole damn thing is fantasy. If you can accept what does exist in the film already, you can accept the squid ending. I used to think Alan Moore was a bit of a nutter, but now I sort of understand how he feels... I'm somewhat disgusted too.

Dude, I agree for the most part about the ending change, but maybe you want to warn about spoilers before you throw it out there. Some people might just want to watch the movie

****SPOILERS*****
I wonder if they're going to make it so Dr. Manhattan causes the destruction of NY under his own volition. That can work, as it fits into his very amoral philosophy. Since he decided that mankind is worth saving because of their unique properties, he could also be convinced that destroying a city will save the greater majority.
