Quietly Impressive New Trailer for 'Revolutionary Road'
Filed under: Drama, Awards, Movie Marketing, Oscar Watch, Paramount Vantage, Trailers and Clips
In a week littered with plenty of big-budget trailers piggy-backing on James Bond's undeniable popularity (Quantum of Solace just had the biggest opening day of any Bond film to date), the new one for Sam Mendes' domestic drama Revolutionary Road very nearly slipped through the cracks (thanks to Rob for passing it on, and Variety's Anne Thompson for premiering it).
This trailer plays more like a teaser than its predecessor, and yet it's a simple and short way to lure one into the suburban woes of stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. The very slightest rumbles and mumbles of its worthiness as an awards contender this season are beginning to issue from the earliest guild screenings, and I suspect that the weeks to come will only bring more buzz before the film bows in limited release the day after Christmas -- the same strategy that Paramount Vantage employed last year with a little film they like to call There Will Be Blood. Now, if you'll excuse me, I should really get back to this book Eugene kept going on about...

Great timing for this post, I somehow missed Eugene's original post on the book.
I ended up having a free Sunday today and woke up this morning with the intention to go and buy a book and sit and read all day. I very rarely get the opportunity to read much at the moment, except on vacations when I try to get through a years worth of reading in 2 weeks.
Anyway, to cut it short I saw this post and read Eugene's plea to read the book and went straight to Borders and got the only copy they had. Pretty great so far, a little worried that like Eugene there is more than a little of me in Frank, I will see how that goes.
Anyway, trailer looks great. Thanks for the tip!

This book is my favorite of all time. What an impressive novel. I don't know how they could possibly have translated it to the screen (it is largely internal/psychological), but the film is clearly in good hands. The two lead characters (in the book, at least) have Oscar-worthy performance all over them. Kate Winslet should definitely nail the tragic April Wheeler. I'm hoping for her first, long-overdue Oscar for this one.

Oh wow, that's one of the best trailers of the year.
Excellent use of Cat Power's cover of "Sea of Love."
