Interview: 'Twilight' Director Catherine Hardwicke
Filed under: Horror, Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Podcasts, Interviews

Asked what she would tell theatergoers who have no interest in vampires that might make them want to see Twilight, her new film adapting Stephenie Meyers' best-selling story of immortal longings and teen love, director Catherine Hardwicke laughs: "I would say that when you come out of the theater you might be in danger of whoever went with you ... just grab(bing) you and start making out with you. ..." The director of gritty urban fare like Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown, Hardwicke also explained how she truly identified with Twilight's teen heroine and got into the supernatural series: "When I read the book, I just got drawn in, and ... as I read the book I just started becoming Bella, and just breathing and hyperventilating, like her, and getting mezmerized by the whole experience. ..." Hardwicke spoke about undead romance, adapting a much-loved book, the classic vampire visions she avoided, and much more with Cinematical in Los Angeles. Twilight (movie) sucked, I hope they do alot better in "New Moon" and stick closely to the book. Summit Entertainment really ruined The movie Twilight, and for a Director who worked on "vanilla sky" Cathrine should have done way better.

I hated the movie it was nothing like the book!! Im sorry but it is intense while reading the book you can't stop reading because you feel the emotions that the characters are feeling and you feel like you are actually there. I LOVED THE BOOK
i haven't read anything like it, i just wished that the movies was much much more like the book.....

BOTH the movie and the book were overly-hyped by teenage girls and suck.

Twilight the movie was awesome. amazing. wonderful. breathtaking. although it was as great as the book, it was better than i thought it would be. my mom has seen it twice, and she thought she wouldnt like it. but she loved it. ive seen it three times.(: my dad and brother have seen it two times. they liked it. they cant wait for new moon. Well, neither can I. but it was the boringest of the 4 novels. but i loved it still. Edward was perfect in the movie... i mean seriously!!!! I loved him to death. and for some reason, im also obsessed with Jasper and Carlisle. Not to mention, Jacob is pretty darn cute himself.....
All I can say is, im sad that Catherine wont be directing New Moon. And that I cannot wait for the movies. I wish Stephenie Meyer would continue the saga. I've had breaking dawn since august 2nd and im still not finished with it, i mean, i could be already, but considering its the last one, its a little hard too. im on page 730. So, im getting close. Well, Twilight is the best of all time. Movie and book wise.(:

I really think your right.... I can't wait for New moon either!!!!! i'm "unconditionally and irrevocably" in love with edward!!!! But I had one more question.... If Catherine Hardwicke isn't directing New moon, who will be? And will the same people have the same roles?

I though the movie was amazing, yet I still always had something dawning on me.Throughout the movie, I was slighty sad that the movie was nothing like the book. It had only some of the events, it was surprisingly short and the whole story was turned upside down. I think that the movie could have been much better if it weren't deprived of Meyer's suspensful moments. If they could lengthen it up with more of the events it would be very good. And I couldn't really feel Bella's passion for Edward because they skipped to the kissing scene too early and it seemed like Bella barely knew him. And I wasn't going to buy that "it was as if I had known him all my life" thing. It wasnt the actor's fault, by the way, I actually thought Rob and Kristens work was wonderful and passionate, a great love and a very convincing kiss that could captivate the hearts of many girls. I just thought that the movie was too short and they rushed to the kissing scene, and that they mixed up all the events. I just wanted to inform you so that New Moon would be able to get better reviews that it would probably deserve. Yet, I am still sad to know that Edward was barely in it. It would also be good if the director put Edward into the New Moon movie more than he was in the book. People would be more pleased seing Rob(edward), than to see Taylor(jacob).
