Give It Up for WB and Their '4 Film Favorites'
I'd seen them peppered throughout the DVD stacks. Heck, I even bought a few of 'em. (You can probably guess which ones.) But I wasn't really all that enthused about WB's new marketing gimmick until the last time I stepped into my local Target. These are just a pair:

Now, like most pathetic DVD maniacs, I already own most of these movies in one DVD form or another. But heck ... if you don't? A no-brainer. And they're not bare-bones babies either! I didn't get the Matrix one, but the Super-set is basically a stripped-down version of this illustrious release, but a lot of the extras have been retained. Yay retention! And if you see these double-disc sets on a shelf for higher than $15, I say keep on walkin'. Yes, I know it's just a desperate ploy to get some more money out of the standard transfers before everyone finally flips over to Blu-Ray, but dang. A bargain's a bargain.
For a full listing of the "4 Film Favorites" editions, check out this brilliant search I did over at Amazon.com. My favorite sets are the Stephen King one, the general horror one, the Freddy 1-4 one, and the full Lethal Weapon set. It's just handy!

Deepdiscount.com also has them. Search for "4 film favorites". You can get 25% off this week too. Use code "USATODAY" (there are other codes as well).
For instance the Superman set is $13.33 shipped, but with 25% off it becomes only $10 shipped. Lethal Weapon is $11.79. It's $8.84 after discount.

The real problem is that these are stripped down. And look cheapy.

Or you can buy Matrix 1, forget the others ever existed, and be truly happy.

I'm happy with the double sided disc format. I purchased Superman 1-4, Leathal Weapons 1-4, and the Stephen King 4 pack (which I basically just bought for Cat's Eye).
It's a good bargain and considering the economy, the change to blue ray will likely be slower than some hope.
Regarding the Superman discs, I liked 1 and 2 but did not buy them when they were reissued a couple of years ago because I didn't want to shell out the money. On the commentary for Superman II, it was interesting to hear Ilya Salkind's take on the whole Richard Donner exodus from the second film. But is it just me, or does Ilya Salkind sound sort of like Zoidberg from Futurama?

"before everyone finally flips over to Blu-Ray"
That's never going to happen. Everyone will continue using dvd's until digital downloads and vod become commonplace. Blu ray is just HD-DVD with a slightly longer lifespan.
