Discuss: 'Mac and Me'

I had always heard of 1988's Mac and Me in the most vague whispers of infamy, and so I always knew that I'd eventually get around to seeing it, being such an avid fan of train-wrecks and all. However, leave it to one Paul Rudd to show me the single scene that would jet this puppy right to the top of my Netflix Queue. He did, so I did, and now it's behind me.
Or is it? Surely, some of you have also seen this hilarious E.T. rip-off, in which a young boy (not played by Henry Thomas) cares for an alien creature -- separated from its family, natch -- with a girl his age who believes first (not played by Drew Barrymore), a skeptical older brother (not Robert MacNaughton), and an oblivious mother (not Dee Wallace), feeding it junk food (Skittles instead of Reese's Pieces, etc.) as faceless government agents (not led by Peter Coyote) close in.
Oh, and there's a cameo by none other than Ronald McDonald himself.
So, readers: I beg/plead/implore you to dig up your fondest memories of this film and share them with the rest of us. It's been twenty years; it's time to move on. For the rest of you, check out these clips...

All I remember about that movie is that two handed whistle nonsense. I saw it in the theater with my stepbrother and he would not stop imitating it. It drove me crazy.
Of course since I was about 10 when this came out I was oblivious to the fact of how crappy it was and that it was just one long commercial.

I had a screening with about 20 friends about a year ago, complete with cheese burgers from McDonald's.

I remember Macs parents used to really creep me out. Really creepy, especially with their guts, like trailer park aliens. Great movie for a triple feature with Space Camp, and Flight of the Navigator.

I was about 8 years old, and this was in my top 5 movies of all time. I think it was in competition with The Land Before Time, Flight of the Navigator, and some others. I have fond memories. Of course looking back.....
I was never an E.T. fan, so this blatant ripoff was sweet.

Never heard of it. Probably because I wasn't born until a couple years later. It reminds me of Nukie, though.

This is cult film numero uno for me and my best friend. Everything about Mac & Me is glorious: The terrible acting, the visible F/X wires, the continuity errors, the endless product placement shots (Skittles, Coke, Atlas Movers, McDonalds...), the dance sequence, it's all awesome.
One of the funniest aspects of the movie is that is you watch a video copy and turn on the closed captioning during the music sequences, the wrong lyrics come up on the screen! It's like the filmmakers hated the audience so much that they wanted to make sure that even deaf people got shafted.

This film is way older than me, but has to be the best movie ever! I watched it with a group of friends, and we were laughing so hard we had to rewind most of it, just so we could tell what was happening. My favorite part is how the mom always looks like she is about to rape the son....

I think the best part of the movie is at the end when the whole family is sworn in as United States Citizens. I think that is awesome! We don't care about aliens or how they got here or anything else for that matter; all we care about is making them legal.

I am ashamed to say that I saw this movie more so than E.T. When my sister and I were little, every weekend we'd go to the kids section of a local video store and choose whatever movie we would find. One of them was MAC AND ME and we'd rent it one or two times a year or so. (E.T. wasn't shelved in the kids section, I think.) Part of my childhood is filled with watching crappy kiddie movies. No wonder I got chubby and became obsessed with Happy Meals.
I'm glad to say that I no longer like McDonalds (thank you, SUPERSIZE ME), I'm in good shape, and I have a better taste in movies now.

The best part is the end when Mac's family is driving away and the alien dad blows a bubble gum bubble that says, "We'll Be Back!"
But no one cared to see them return...
