Summit Makes 'Twilight' Sequel Official

The first film has been in theaters for a little over 24 hours now, but Summit Entertainment hasn't wasted any time in officially announcing the follow up to Twilight (which took in a whopping $35 million on Friday alone), based on the second book in the series, New Moon. Here's the press release Cinematical just received:
"Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.
Stephenie Meyer stated, "I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON."
Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together...even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward's nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella."

OMG! I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEW MOON. I WAS GOING PRACTICALLY CRAZY WAITING ONLY A MONTH FOR TWILIGHT TO COME OUT, NOW I'M GOING TO BE TORTURED AND IN AGONY AWAITING NEW MOON. I HOPE THEY FINISH NEW MOON QUICKLY AND SO I CAN SEE IT SOONER. I'VE BEEN WAITING SINCE TWILIGHT AND HOPING THERE WOULD BE A SEQUAL (WHICH I NEW THEY HAD TO MAKE) .... Keep the movie exactly as the books and we have nothing to be dissappointed with. :) I just borrowed the book Twilight yesterday and finished it last night. It was awesome...i wanted to hear more and now im anxious to see the movie and start book 2-New Moon.

We would like an ongoing flow of information about the next movie as it's being filmed :) Hopefully the director will take the fans' opinions about what worked and what didn't, and hopefully the next movie will come out in 2009 so we don't have to wait too long :D
You asked for comments so here's a couple: don't add too much new stuff that totally changes the character (for example Bella was supposed to be a "caretaker with a selfless personality" and she never cooked one thing for Charlie in the movie; we did not picture her with a laptop and an iPod either); Also please do not do closeups of the contact lenses as this was not a good effect; How about some nicer clothes for Edward--his shirts looked old and wrinkled and he was supposed to be rich! We love Jacob, so we cannot wait to see more of him. Stephenie Meyer you are the greatest--thank you for this series and please finish Midnight Sun soon!!!!

I totally agree with your comments. Also, even though the kiss between Edward and Bella was HOT in the movie, it isn't at all how it happend in the book. Edward had to be VERY careful when he kissed her so he wouldn't be tempted to BITE her. The movie didn't show any of the moments where Bella practically fainted due to the effect that being around Edward had on her. I loved that. They left too much out of the movie. Hopefully they will make New Moon longer so they can fit most of the book in it. I loved Rob in the movie, and I don't think they could have found anyone more perfect to play Edward. Kristen Stewart is NOT a good actress at all. That hospital bed seen was awful and it felt like I was watching some horrible outake.

Of course they're doing New Moon - how could they not? I enjoyed Twilight even though it was really a mediocre translation to film. My comments for improvement: Edward, get to a gym. Bella, polish up your acting skills. FIRE THE STYLIST - would Alice have ever let Edward wear a sweatshirt or old grey t-shirt? What's up with Carlisle's hair? Don't do any hokey backflashes. Also, I know the Volturri will make for good film, but sure I hope they spend enough time developing Jacob and Bella's relationship since that's what 2/3 of New Moon was about - and it's the foundation and strength of that relationship that makes the rest of the tale so interesting.
