David Fincher Directing Keanu Reeves in 'Chef'?
Filed under: Casting, Deals, RumorMonger, Fandom, Newsstand
It's always fun when some tasty bit of news gets tossed out online, especially when there's only a few tiny little pieces -- like a director, an actor and a title. That seems to be the case with this piece of news, via Production Weekly, who tell us that Sony has picked up the rights for a film called Chef, which will be directed by David Fincher and star Keanu Reeves. That's it. That's all we have to go by. No genre, no premise, no additional cast -- nada. As far as Fincher and Reeves go, each appears to be available as the former is finished with Benjamin Button and is attached to only direct an animated segment of Heavy Metal, and Reeves just finished The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. The only flick that comes to my mind is the remake of Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe, but the titles are different and it doesn't seem like the kind of project Fincher would direct. So who is this chef? Where does he come from? Tell us more about this movie! If anyone out there has more info on it, definitely let us know.

How is Keanu Reeves still getting big work (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Constantine) with talented directors (David Fincher)? Is he even considered a bankable star anymore?

Of course Keanu is bankable. his movies always make some money and it's a time since his last big budget movie, Constantine, and that one did very well around the world. people tend to dismiss Keanu's career but it takes a look to see the guy is way more wise and intelligent than people give him credit for and is always working with the best of Hollywood.

In August of 2001 AICN ran a story about Fincher's plan to make a movie based on Anthony Bourdains book: Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly.

from what i believe it's written by michael kalesniko ,keanu's sister was dating a chef and he knew a guy that had a good story.
keanu and stephan hamel have been tunning the script and david fincher had wanted to do a movie about the kitchen so maby he can implement some ideas that he has had from that previous project that fell through. the story is more in the vein of " no reservations" it's lighter than people will think but thats all i have and i just read a artical were it said keanu's film's have grossed more than three billion and counting and internationaly he brings in the people and i think it's been along time since 1992 dracula and he has come along way to shed the wooden stigma 'its 2008 his becoming a jedi

Since you mentioned it, remaking Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe isn't a bad idea. Maybe with Amy Adams taking over Jacqueline Bisset's part and with McG directing?

This is a project that Keanu has been trying to get made for a while . It's was tentatively called "Chef Project" by Steven Knight.
I read the script about a year ago, and remember thinking Keanu would be good in the lead role of Adam. It was a descent script I'm glad to see it's finally getting some traction. Good for him.
