Discuss: Should They Make an 'Incredible Hulk' Sequel?

Poor Hulk! Batman, Iron Man, even Wolverine get more sequel press than he does. But late last week, Tim Blake Nelson revealed to MTV that he had signed for Hulk sequels, with every intention of taking the villainous center stage as The Leader. But like the rest of us, he has no idea whether or not they'll come to be, or whether or not Edward Norton will return. "It's all good, and I really do hope [the sequel] happens, for all sorts of reasons. But yeah, we did, we had a great time on Hulk together. I'm eager to do Hulk 2 if they make it ... I'm signed on to do Hulk 2 and 3 whether Edward's there or not, so it's not even up to me ... I certainly hope Edward is on the sequel - but that's up to Marvel and Edward."
Meanwhile, over in Avengers land, Robert Downey Jr. mentioned again that Hulk is going to show up in that crown jewel of superhero flicks. It's a strange place for the green giant to be in, because he's going forward, yet lost in a land of sequel rumor and leading man drama.
It's a question we've thrown out to Cinematical readers before, but with all this additional info, where do you want Hulk to go from here? Do you think that he should get his planned trilogy, then land with a thunderclap in The Avengers? Should they just leave well enough alone with The Incredible Hulk? And how do you feel about yet another Hulk recast?
My personal take is that if Marvel can't make up with Norton, they should just give up franchising Hulk, and just leave him off the big screen until The Avengers. Theoretically, you could have an all-CGI Hulk in that, thereby sidestepping the need to replace Norton. It would be clunky, though, and might "really really suck." Sigh. Why does there have to be so much drama in the world of Marvel? Earth's mightiest heroes should have a much easier time uniting than this.

I feel sorry for Hulk too, he always seems to land on the hands of retards (french poodle hulk fights and over the top CGI monster mash) He deserved better. He should be put to rest.

All I know is I want to see the character on the big screen again. If they can sort out their drama and get Norton on board, great. I'm all for it.
If they decide to make him an antagonist in Avengers, great. Sign me up.
Then again, I never really understood the problem moviegoers seem to have with him. I loved both versions of the Hulk and would support sequels to either. (obviously Ang's Hulk is not getting revisited, I mean I would have been happy to see a sequel before "Incredible" and I'd be happy to see a sequel to this newer version as well) Going all CGI for the Avengers sounds like a mistake. No matter how well you write it, not matter what reason you give to explain why he can't "Un-hulk", people will balk at it as a blatant attempt to work around not having Norton on board. So no matter what happens, that needs to be the first priority. I don't know exactly what went on that started the feud between he and Marvel but it needs to be worked out so that the character is done the justice he deserves without the politics of casting marring the public's perception of him yet again.
Plus, they have already set up Shield and Stark as a part of the Hulk universe, it would be a crying shame to just sweep it under the rug now. They are making history here and if this is successful, it could mean a whole new world of Superhero Films, where these cats actually know each other and work together. Especially going into this next decade, where the cost of VFX is going down and the quality is going up, the potential is endless but it all currently rests on the success of the Avengers.
No pressure guys.

I've put forth that Avengers will be Hulk 2. At the end, Banner has a smile on his face. But who is smiling? Is Hulk now the dominant personality or has Banner given in to his darker side? What if the events of The Incredible Hulk was just a set up for a Hulk as villain Avengers movie which will redeem the green guy before credits roll?

Personally, I think they should have him in Avengers, as a sort of villain, and have it end with him being shot into space. Then do a Hulk sequel using the Planet Hulk storyline. Done and done.

Was the movie really that bad? To be honest I liked it better than Ironman for I didn't find Tony Stark's conversion from irresponsible playboy to hero very convincing.

I haven't seen the first movie or the latest one.
I have no appetite for the Hulk movies for some reason. Maybe because he's seperate from his human character. I just don't care as much. All the other superheros are themselves, but just wearing masks.

Poor Hulk?
You feel sorry for the Hulk?
The Hulk has had a TV show, TV movies and two big screen movies. Enough Hulk already. There is nothing to see here. Banner gets mad turns green and smashes things. We've seen it already. Hulk is a one trick pony.
Has Marvel run out of characters? Give some other Hero a chance.

No sequel. They've already done two movies, with the second being a soft reboot. Just put Hulk in The Avengers movie.

Of course, Hulk has to be in The Avengers and it is not a strange place for him to appear: Hulk (in the comics) was a founding member of The Avengers (along with Iron Man, Ant Man, Wasp, and Thor)! Captain America was actualy NOT "The First Avenger" (he was discovered on ice by them shortly after their founding). However, the Avengers have always considered him an unofficial founding member.
Hulk still has movie potential. They could have him revert to the more savage Gray Hulk or even make him into the Professor Hulk persona (the one that wore clothes and even reading glasses!) for The Avengers movie or another solo Hulk film.
My vote is to put him in Avengers (maybe as a more intelligent Professor Hulk --- explaining why he was smiling at the end of the last Hulk film) and then spin that out into Hulk 2.

One thing you have n't mentioned the Hulk can be in Avengers Movie without Ed Norton. The Hulk is a CGI character - Ed Norton plays Bruce Banner -- It would be easy to have Avengers Movie without Bruce Banner

I missed The Incredible Hulk in theaters. And I didn't like the Ang Lee version of Hulk.
Maybe Hulk would be better as a TV series. I was a fan of the TV incarnation back in the 70s or 80s. Hey, they brought back Knight Rider. I think Hulk on TV could be interesting again.

After just watching the second "Hulk" movie I was surprised with a decent movie. I think Norton played the role well and would be a good Hulk from here on out.
I would have to agree that The Avengers should hit the wide screen before another Hulk movie. The Hulk shouldn't be left for dead, that role is for the "Punisher" B movies we have gotten from the studios.
Downey played Stark very well and I liked his "roll-over" to the superhero because he wasn't being a superhero he was being vengeful with a flare.
We have been spoiled with Spider-man, X-men and the new Batman films. We expect all films to be of equal caliber but that just isn't going to happen until the characters are rounded out first.
We need to "feel" for the person before we can cheer for the hero.
