'Twilight' Sequel to Shoot This March
Filed under: Drama, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fandom, DIY/Filmmaking, Remakes and Sequels
Looks like Summit Entertainment isn't wasting any time with the next Twilight movie, New Moon, based on the second book in Stephenie Meyers' ultra popular series. Not only has it been reported that both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are receiving a giant pay raise for the sequel (somewhere around $12 million each), but while appearing on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Stewart said New Moon would start shooting in March, 2009. Is Summit trying to turn the next flick around in time for Christmas, 2010 ... or do you think they're eying a major Summer 2010 spot? As far as budget is concerned, according to Stewart the production value should be going up. She says, "A lot of the book takes place in Italy, and I think we're going to get to go to Italy, which is so cool. For a while there, they were like, Oh, we don't know if we have the money, but now I think we may have the money!" Um, yeah, I think they have the money.
For those who saw Twilight, what would you like to see the sequel do differently?

I guess the only thing that could be done better is more character development and explanation about the entire cast, this is especially important for the few who haven't read the books and do not know the characters yet.
Other than that, not much else needs to be done. It's not like the Twilight series has the special effects of a Harry Potter movie, so I'd rather they not blow their entire budget on that one aspect of it. I just hope in the coming films, werewolves look realistic, and the CGI used doesn't stand out too badly. I know how it can go wrong, and I just want them to do it their own way rather than trying to make a werewolf look how movies have portrayed them in the past.

A new director. While I like Catherine Hardwicke, I don't think this is really her type of genre. The movie was very similar to her other films which created a very choppy feel and very little flow. They need someone who knows the action/romance genre better. It would be more of a garrantee to get more of that male audience in as well.

I would like to see more of the book in the movie. I know it's impossible to get every detail in the movie but more would be appreciated. As well as no revision of scenes.
I would also like to see the actors get more into character. Like to express themselves as we in vision them in the book.

The book "New Moon" has a lot less Edward. So I would like to see the movie stick as close to the book as possible. :-)

I keep seeing this quote from K Stewart, "A lot of the book takes place in Italy..." Where did she get that from? Out of 24 chapters, only 3 and a half take place in Italy. I wouldn't necessarily call that a lot.

It may only be 3 1/2 chapters, it was the most exciting part of the book. Those chapters were the whole book......

I would like to see more involvement of the Cullens. I also think Rob needs to loosen up a little he looks so uncomfortable playing Edward. I know Edward is supposed to be a little uncomfortable but Rob doesn't look comfortable being Edward.

I think that the people that play the character should stay the same because once a character is replaced by a different person the movies just aren't the same people just mostly forget about the movie cause most of the time the movies with the same characters are more interesting and so people are more likely to keep liking the series of movies as long as the same people play the same characters.

I agree with Gina. Get a new director. I was disappointed that she failed to capture the true depth of the intensity of love that the book portrayed. It was indeed choppy and the flow was not there.
Follow the book, more if possible and if they do film a lot in Italy, please please don't mess up the scene when Edward starts to walk into the sunlight and he believes that Bella is a trick.........that is pivotal.
Oh ....and the music, more dramatic in conjuntion with what is going on....
Regardless, can't wait...and I'm no tween**

Definitely make the movie flow better. 'Twilight' really felt choppy, even for someone who has read the book I felt a little lost at times, and I had to think back to the book to figure out where we were.

don't know if it was time constraints, but movie was not edited very well. so very uneven. wanted Edward to smile more, especially after the fight, scene. werewolves have been well done on screen-see BLOOD AND CHOCOLATES, so there shouldn't been any overly expensive CGI shots. Just a better flow to NEW MOON is really all we're asking.

Can they please for the love of all that is holy hire better background actors? It was really distracting when I was watching the movie that half the time the people in the background were acting like they were in a middle school play at best. Generally I am not this nitpicky about attention to detail, but the overacting was a little ridiculous, I wish the director would have told them to do something other than, "have generic overexcited conversation here" or "exit scene akwardly here, so the main characters can be alone."

well i think that they should show a little bit of the cullens throughtout the movie..and i ve been reading in some sites where people are saying that they should fully show edward when bella hears his voice instead of just being his voice...that would be awesome and all...but i think they should focus on making some of the eclipse scenes since edward isnt supposed to age..i heard they're we're going to shoot new moon and eclipse back-to-back..

I think they should follow the books a little better and keep the scenes in sequence with the book better. Some of the scenes came earlier or later in the movie than in the book.

First, they need a new director. I really think the bad acting in the movie was due to Catherine Hardwicke telling them that those performances were good. I'm convinced the actors have more potential in them than that. These are not the movies for her to direct.
Second, stick to the book. I know we all love Edward, but he's BARELY in New Moon. Don't just bring him into the movie because everyone loves him; it doesn't fit with the book. And don't mess up any pivotal, iconic scenes like they did in Twilight. They destroyed the meadow scene and made it seem like it wasn't so significant in the movie. Mainly because they put the kissing scene that was supposed to happen in the meadow in Bella's bedroom, and while it was hot, it wasn't nearly as hot as the kiss in the meadow in the book.
Third, make better use the other characters, especially Alice. She is so important in New Moon and deserves the screen time. Especially since she becomes Bella's best girl friend throughout the rest of the series. And they need to make me like Jacob. While I'm definitely Team Edward, I think Jacob is the more fun, interesting character and I just didn't like Taylor Lautner's Jacob. Please make me like him so that it's more of a conflict for me to choose between Jacob and Edward. We're supposed to feel Bella's confusion between the two guys because while we read, we become Bella through reading her thoughts and feelings. If I don't like Jacob in the movie, they're not doing their job.
Fourth, just don't make it suck as hard core as Twilight did.

I LOVE Erin!!!
I could not have said it better myself!
No more long stares into space, no forcing Edward into random scenes (as much as I love seeing him), and no choppy throw together scenes to make up the movie!
I'm pretty sure Twilight fans wouldn't care if you made a 3 hour long movie :)
So, stay true to the book... The book is the reason we're going to see the movies anyway.

I agree with Erin about Jacob's part in the books. All the friction between him and Edward was great. And some of the best lines in the books 3and4.
I think taylor would make a great Seth, but way to baby face to change to the wolf or pull off the love tension between him and Bella. Even us older ladies are in love with this series.
