What Were The Most Popular Movie Trailers of 2008?

Now that we've entered the final month of the year, look for our site (and several others) to spend some time looking back at 2008. We here at Cinematical will kick off our year-end festivities real soon, but in the meantime Yahoo Movies was first out of the gate with a list of the most popular movie trailers of 2008. Keep in mind this is only according to Yahoo's numbers and represents the most watched, not necessarily the best (we'll have that list later this month).
As expected, a good majority of this list is made up of big summer blockbuster-type stuff, and guess which flick leads the pack? Yup, the one with that damn bat. The top two (Dark Knight and Indiana Jones) don't surprise me in the least, but the next two are ... Twilight (3) and The Incredible Hulk (4)? Really? Those vampires even beat everyone's favorite boy wizard, Harry Potter, who came in at a disappointing sixth on the list, behind Iron Man. Check out the titles below -- anything surprise you? Did you expect Twilight to take the third spot behind whoppers like Dark Knight and Indy? Sound off ...
1. The Dark Knight
2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
3. Twilight
4. The Incredible Hulk
5. Iron Man
6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
7. Wanted
8. Hancock
9. Sex and the City
10. Kung Fu Panda

I remember a few months back catching the trailer for a film called 'Paranormal Activity' right here on this very website. It was a small production chronicling a family who coped with their house being haunted by hanging surveillance cameras around the house. A 'Blair Witch' meets 'Big Bother' kind of deal.
That trailer blew me away!
Pity I've never been able to track down the actual film. Does anyone know if it has actually been released, like, anywhere?

Didn't the trailer for The Watchmen rack up a huge amount of traffic?

Seriously though, what kind of people visit "Yahoo Movies" on a regular basis? That should explain any list they can produce over there.
Popular ≠ Best Trailer in a lot of cases. However, I'd agree, The Dark Knight, and The Watchmen would be the best I've seen in the past year, and I'd expect them to be super popular as well.
I wasn't really pleased with the Indiana Jones trailer, but the movie made it all better for me, despite what other people thought of the film.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
It got more positive buzz than the movie it preceded. Didn't somebody declare the film a masterpiece just by the trailer alone?

The "Watchmen" trailer is the greatest trailer of a movie to date, period.

Twilight doesn't surprise me, fangirls and an avid group of readers of the series probably watched it three times a day for a month before it came out, I was one of them.
Iron Man all the way back at #5 is a huge surprise though, it should be 3 or at least 4, and The Incredible Hulk at #4 is a big surprise too, considering it didn't do well and I thought Iron Man had a more enthusiastic comic book crowd anyway. Harry Potter got moved back so there's that, Wanted being above Hancock and Sex and the City is a huge surprise, especially since Sex should have that livid crowd of followers too. Kung Fu Panda beating out Wall-E is also strange but I guess it probably played more teen with Jack Black.

oh and the watchmen trailer is enjoyable, but not that fantastic, trailers that beat it this year:
Doubt
Benjamin Button
Milk
Iron Man (yes I love that trailer)
and maybe Dark Knight.
It's one of the best this year, but just this year, there have been much better trailers in the past. But I am a writing oriented viewer so only having about 15 words was a negative to me

I am surprised Quantum of Solace isn't on this list though, it was a strong trailer for a huge movie and bond has a strong fan base

watchmen was probably my favorite, just maybe edged out by the dark knight.
but what about pineapple express? sure there was some collateral damage with the MIA song being way overplayed, but let's all admit that it was perfect for the trailer. one of the best of the year.
and the indy trailer? it was this very trailer that led me to believe that the movie wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

The RocknRolla trailer was excellent--as was the movie. Unfortunately, few people have gotten to see it due to the ridiculously limited release by Warner Brothers. Why do so many absurd films get wide release, and gems like this come and go with little fanfare? I guess it speaks to the mentality of the masses.
