Holiday Movie Junk: Deckard's Trenchcoat
Filed under: Fandom, Holiday Movie Junk

Every man (and woman) needs a stylish trench coat -- and every fan who loves Ridley Scott's neo-noir needs this trench coat. This is a faithful replica of Rick Deckard's trenchcoat of the future, meticulously recreated by Abby Shot. They promise (and their customer reviews back it up) that it will wear the same, even in the endless rain. So, go ahead -- get in a fistfight with that Rutger Hauer lookalike, because it will stand you in good stead. Wear it, knowingly, to a noodle bar! You'll be in fashion in the past, present, and future -- and while all those moments may be lost, like tears in rain, the coat won't be. The grandchild who inherits it will be grateful they had such a cool grandparent.
If Blade Runner isn't quite your style, Abby Shot probably has a coat that is. Among other pieces, you can get the Bride's yellow biker jacket from Kill Bill, Silent Bob's trench, Mad Max's coat, Zoe's Serenity vest, and (my favorite) Wolverine's coat from X-Men. (It would take a special guy to rock that coat.) They're pricey, but they are all custom made for you, which is more than you would get if you spent it at Gucci. Check them out, if only to drool and wish you were really really wealthy.

thats a little too bright on the tan coloring to be Deckards coat. Also, the internal collar was more corduroy like as seen here:

Color is a tricky thing when it comes to costumes though -- it's all dependent on the lighting. Costumes often are way lighter or darker than they appeared onscreen. It's a toss up when you're doing a replica...do you make it the color it was onscreen or off? Plus the photo from Abby is lit REALLY brightly, so it could be darker than it appears.
I think they have the collar right -- I'd have to see the original for sure, but it looks like detailed stitching rather than corduroy. It doesn't have the velvety texture.
It's the one all the Blade Runner costumers buy, though, so it must be pretty good. :)

Elisabeth-
While I agree that lighting and the such does alter appearance, from all the research I have done into Blade Runner (its a bit of an obsession of mine) I can say that this coat comes close, but is not perfect. And to say "all the Blade Runner costumers" buy is a bit incorrect (and insulting imo) All the cosplayers I know (and am one myself) make their own costumes and would never pay such ridiculous prices for a garment that isn't 100% perfect.
Matt- Thanks for assuming I have no idea what I am talking about and didn't bother to look at the detail shot of the product in question. Trust me, I looked at that thing very closely before I made my statement, and that statement still stands: the coat is nice, but no where near perfect.

Hey Akbar,
What's with the anger? You sound like you're ready to pick a fight with everyone. I can't tell if you're angriest at Matt & Elizabeth for "daring to intrude" on your original post, or if most of your anger is towards Abby Shot for committing the crime of not being cosplayer enough enough for you! Lighten up man, it's just a coat! LOL! :-)
