'Star Trek' Boldly Going IMAX

Not long ago it was rumored that when J.J. Abrams' Star Trek hits theaters this May 8, it will do so by arriving in both conventional theaters and on IMAX screens. While nothing official has been announced yet, it appears the folks in charge are waiting till The Day the Earth Stood Still hits theaters. Why? Well, according to our peeps, a Star Trek trailer will be attached to IMAX prints of that film. Here's what a source told us: "We got our print-info sheet for Day the Earth Stood Still in IMAX and attached is a trailer for Star Trek. So it appears that JJ Abrams Trek Reboot/Remake is coming to IMAX in May."
Not for nothing, but it seems like a fairly obvious choice to bring Star Trek to IMAX theaters since, as proven by The Dark Knight, the fanboy-ish stuff thrives in that environment. Unfortunately, unlike Dark Knight, Abrams did not shoot any of the film with IMAX cameras; instead, the flick will be converted to fit the format. What say you? How will you watch Star Trek -- in regular theaters or on IMAX screens?

I didn't see Dark Knight at the IMAX and won't see anything there until they convert over to digital. Shaky, fuzzy, hairy -vision isn't really my cup of tea now that i'm spoiled to a good digital setup.
Not to mention our IMAX theater ALWAYS HAS STUFF TURNED UP WAY TOO LOUD BECAUSE LOUDER IS CLEARLY BETTER, RIGHT!
If Abrahms filmed ST for IMAX i might consider it, but since he didn't and i'd be watching a cropped version, what's the point?

I don't know what IMAX theatre you've gone to where the picture was shaky, fuzzy and hairy, but that's certainly not typical. Most people demand that the sound be "maximized". Two other points here:(1) movies converted to IMAX from the 2.35 to 1 aspect ratio 35mm "scope" format are not cropped on an IMAX screen. The 70mm IMAX conversion fills the screen side to side, but not quite top to bottom - ie you see it all. (2) Incidentally, the new "digital" IMAX screens will be considerably smaller than the theatres still using film. Everything is a trade off. You missed an awsome experience last summer by passing on TDK.
