Tim Burton and Johnny Depp Doing 'Dark Shadows' Next?
Filed under: Horror, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Deals, Warner Brothers, RumorMonger, Johnny Depp
Now before anyone gets too excited, keep in mind that when it comes to Dark Shadows on the big screen, nothing is ever a done deal. Over a year ago, the news surfaced that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton were putting their heads together to bring the 1960's TV series to the big screen. But, as we all know, a certain girl falling down a rabbit hole took priority. But, in a conversation with Yes Man producers, Richard D. Zanuck and David Heyman, Collider scored some news about the adaptation via 'Hollywood Royal', Mr. Zanuck. According to him, "Dark Shadows is going to be Tim's next project after Alice in Wonderland and they'll be shooting it next summer in London".For those of you who might not remember the campy awesomeness that was Dark Shadows, here is a little primer: Shadows premiered back in 1966 and was considered a 'Gothic soap' that made the leap into the supernatural a few months into its run by adding werewolves, ghosts, zombies, and various other monsters, and most importantly, a vampire by the name of Barnabas Collins. Numerous TV revivals of the series and feature film adaptations have been attempted, but none have ever lasted despite the strong fan base for the 40-plus year old soap.
Both Depp and Burton are avowed Shadows fans, so it makes perfect sense that the duo would be reluctant to let the project fall by the wayside in spite of the delay. But, it is going to be no easy task to bring the soap onto the big screen, even with two die hard fans like Depp and Burton behind the wheel.
Sound off below and tell us if you would like to see Dark Shadows on the big screen...

Heck yes, I'd like to see it. They have a slim chance of pulling it off, if they create a new story arc.

I love these guys, individually. As a team, not so much. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd... ugh, all with so much potential that just bombed in my book. I have strong trepidations these days when it comes to anything these two do together. Alice in Wonderland? I am not overly hopeful, and nor will I be with Dark Shadows.

So, so tired of this combo. Both are damn talented but enough projects together already. Branch out...

Back in the 80's,the NJ network(public TV) played Dark Shadows and the Uncle Floyd show everyday. It was a nice addition to the Usual PBS shows. The politicians in NJ.They were Democrats by the way, took both programs off the air.The viewership has never recovered.

I know nothing about the 60's series, but hasn't anybody watched the 90's remake starring Ben Cross? It was a decent series. Why remake it AGAIN? I mean, I like Burton and Depp and vampire movies, but isn't really anything original that can be made instead?

Bring it ! This should be a lot of fun !
But damn, some of you need to chill with the "no more Burton/Depp collaborations" nonsense.
ALL of their films together have been, to varying degrees, either good (Sleepy Hollow, Chocolate Factory, Corspe Bride ) or great (Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sweeny Todd). And I've no doubt that their next two (Alice and Shadows) will fall into one of those two catagories.
If it bothers ya that much, don't go see their films anymore and stop your bloody whining ; )

HUGE Shadows fan here. Ran from the bus stop to make it home in time to see the show.
Depp has to play Barnabas of course. He was sexy as a pirate and he'd be delicious as a vampire...can't wait!!!

It would be a great film with these two geniuses acting and working on it! DARK SHADOWS is a wonderful franchise; we loved it as children and loved the well done 1990s revival series too. Go Johnny! I hope the movie will have the eerie atmosphere of the 1960s series Wouldn't Maggie Smith be great as Julia Hoffman!

Shadows in the right hands, i bet they will make it and film it right, and true to the original. With one change though. Pleasse Johnny keep your signature goatee! :)

When I was a kid, I used to rush home to catch Dark Shadows. While I'd love the idea of a Dark Shadows movie, the original Dark Shadows movie years ago sucked - it changed all the characters' characters and had an ending guaranteed to make fans hate it.
The series remake was a joke to me. Everyone looked like a model - sort of the precurser to Andromeda, but Andromeda wasn't a remake.
Casting for a current Dark Shadows movie would be really important, and I'd rather see part of the original story - I'm thinking an intro that moves us to modern times.
I hope they go for it - I'd love to see what they do with it!

I love Dark Shadows. I used to rush home every day after school to watch it. I have the first 4 sets of remastered DVDs. I would like nothing more than to see Johnny Depp play in a remake.

I was beginning to think my grandmother and I were Dark Shadow's only fans, hehehe! Strangely enough she and I loved Johnny Depp too! This movie better be good! There is alot of build up over both Depp and Shadows, you will make or break a fan base with this project. I'm so ecstatic to see this movie, I cant believe we will be waiting so long to see it but I will be first in line to see this, twin toddlers or no!!!!

I hope they use a house like Seaview Terrce in Newport R.I. to use as Collinwood in the new movie. Exteriors of the house were used on the original series. Also hope they will use the original music by Robert Cobert. I wish them good luck.

YES, YES, I will see it! I will own it on DVD!! Please, please do it!!!
The remake in the 90's was not what it should have been. But with these two talented guys being fans to boot-their film can not miss.
It is a dream-come-true for those of us who have been waiting for Barnabas to be reborn to us.
Thank you JD; thank you TB!

Did anyone see SWEENEY TODD and SLEEPY HOLLOW?!
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are the current MASTERS OF GOTHIC CINEMA!
The film will, undoubtedly, be a work of art!
