No Milk? An obvious snub. Saw Benjamin Button and don't understand why it is getting such attention. Lousy picture and Pitt still can't act.
Won't be paying much attention to GG's this year but then, they've never had much impact.

Also wanted to throw out my support of what Alex said. One nomination for that movie is ridiculous. Also, Tim Martin was right about Milk. I saw that movie last night and it was incredible. I hate...HATE it when people applaud at the end of movies (the characters aren't really there folks, its a 2 dimensional canvas that we're watching!) but at the end of that movie I wanted to start the cheering myself. Fantastic movie. Both Milk and TDK deserve better.

Believe me, the Golden Globes lost credibility a looooong time ago. Right around the time they were conceived, I think.

I am so glad In Bruges is finally being recognized for how good it was. It was definitely in my top two movies I've seen this year so far. This is the movie that made me change my opinion of Colin Farrell (I really like him as an actor now). If this can somehow win Best Picture (Comedy), I will be the happiest person.
Now, I wish I could say as much for my other top movie that I've seen this year. The Dark Knight deserves to be nominated for Best Picture (Drama)! I know that there's some stiff competition in that category this year, and I'm sure they're all good, but give TDK a chance! Superhero movies have become increasingly popular throughout the last decade and this was the smartest, most well made one yet. Sooner or later, superhero movies are going to be recognized by the academy or the Hollywood Foreign Press, and this should have been the movie to change all of that. There's still hope for the Oscars though. I am glad Heath Ledger got a nomination, but I'm disappointed that Christopher Nolan didn't get nominated for Best Director.
Two other things:
1) I love that James Franco was nominated for Best Actor (Comedy). It's the only role I've ever really liked him in (besides Freaks and Geeks) and he was effing hilarious in it.
2) I'm wish that Tropic Thunder had gotten nominated for Best Comedy. Do they have to nominate a musical every year for that category? Because that's the only way I can explain Mamma Mia! getting nominated for any award. Tropic Thunder was definitely better than that mistake of a movie.

I totally agree with you about In Bruges and Colin Farrell. I think it's one of the best movies I've seen in the past couple of years and I didn't think much of Colin Farrell before seeing that movie.

Tom Cruise's silly rantings in Tropic Thunder got him a Golden Globe nomination?! Seriously? And no Dark Knight Best Picture, Screenplay OR Director nominations? Sad.

This is a surprise?!?! You do realize that the Hollywood Foreign Press (the people that do the actual nominations) is not comprised of internet/comic book fanboys, right?
I'm not saying that The Dark Knight was not good and entertaining, but given the track record of just about every film award out there, did you really think it was going to nab a best director/picture nom?!?!
A much bigger surprise (to me at least) was Tropic Thunder nabs TWO acting noms, and one of those were for Tom Cruise!!

Well, i never watched the GG's anyway, always thought it was garbage and meaningless anyway..it was no surprise that TDK got snubbed and that Milk got ignored. over the years these awards have become more meaningless and less crediable, and it will continue to be that way. Some of these choices are soo cliche and flat out outragouse, sad.And on another note DR. Martin couldn't be more wrong about Brad Pitt.

I thought "In Bruges" was good, but I don't think I'd ever consider it a comedy. And I liked Farrell too, but I got the feeling that the part was originally conceived for someone MUCH younger -- early 20s rather than mid-30s, and new to the business.

What makes you think that Farrell's character was mid thirties and not meant to be younger? They called him "the boy" I was under the impression he was a young kid.
Ahh, I see, because the actor is mid thirties that must mean the character is too? I might be wrong here but I thought he might have been acting and not playing himself.
I had no problem believing that Farrell's character was in his early twenties.

Whooo!! In Bruges really, really, deserves that love. My favorite flick of the year so far! I would have liked to have seen TDK get some more love, but I'm not entirely surprised. I wish WALL-E could get some more love from a category other than animated...that was definitely in my top two films of the year. Random as hell, I don't know all of the songs in best song but The Wrestler is a hell of a new Springsteen song, so I'm rooting for it!

So, I suppose the Hollywood Foreign Press is continuing the tired tradition of giving no love to large box-office films.
Vicki Cristina Barcelona? Really? I'm a fan of Woody Allen and all, but I'm not seeing how this movie was able to nab so many nominations. Oh wait. It's because it's Woody Allen.
IN BRUGES!!!! YEAH!!! That is all.
TDK doesn't get much love, to be expected, but something tells me that we're going to be seeing a little bit more of it at the Oscars.
And the WTF of the year. Tom Cruise gets a nomination for best supporting actor for Tropic Thunder. Holy. Shit. Just... wow.
Oh.; And the assholes snubbed Milk. I waited in line at an early screening to see this movie, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of this year.
The rest is expected. Mamma Mia gets thrown in to make sure we have a musical in that category... People love The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Revoutionary Road for some reason....
Overall, it seems to me that the Hollywood Foreign Press was sitting around doing their normal old fashioned GG choices, when apparently a frat party broke out and we filled in the list with Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express.
Not saying James Franco isn't good. He is. just... Unexpected.

For much of this year In Bruges has been leading my own list, and don't get me wrong, I love the film. But I would have been a little disappointed if it had finished the year at the top, I would have hoped that there would have been at least one film better in the second half of the year.
Well thank god for Slumdog and great to see that too is up for a couple of good awards. No WALL-E and no Dark Knight makes me think that 2009 is going to be the year of Danny Boyle and Slumdog Millionaire.
