Rob Zombie Directing Halloween Sequel
Filed under: Horror, Deals, Fandom, Remakes and Sequels
The rumors were correct this time around, as it looks like Rob Zombie was convinced to return and direct a sequel to his Halloween reboot. Unlike the last Halloween, H2, not to be confused with Halloween H20, will arrive in theaters in October -- which, um, makes a lot more sense than August (even though the first flick took home a good buck at the box office in late summer). Variety tells us the sequel will pick up right where the last one left off, and follow another Michael Myers killing spree through the eyes of his sister (Scout Taylor-Compton will most likely return). According to Zombie, this sequel will in no way resemble the original sequel (except for the part where Michael Myers kills a bunch of people). Zombie, who originally wanted nothing to do with a sequel, was talked back into things after taking some time off from the monster: "I was so burned out. (But) I took a long break, made a record and I got excited again." What's exciting is we'll have two horror sequels squaring off against one another this October: Saw VI and Halloween 2. Not a lot of time to shoot, edit and polish the flick, but something tells me time won't change what the final product looks like.
What do you think? Give Zombie a second chance here, or will this puppy bomb?

I know I might be in the minority, but I very much enjoyed Zombie's Halloween. I'll give this one a shot, and it'll be nice to have a Halloween movie come out around, you know, Halloween.

definitely not in the minority. I quite enjoyed it, and that's coming from the die-est of die-hard fans of the series.

The first half of the Halloween remake was very well done...the make-up presaged the Joker's . Both were influenced by HENRY; PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER...the eerie sight of the serial killer's accomplice applying lipstick in his next victem's bedroom, IMHO. Something about a nutcase wearing lipstick gives me the willies!
I say give Mr. Z another chance...after all , THE DEVIL'S REJECTS was quite good, in a nasty way.

Really, I am a huge fan of the Halloween series of movies (who isn't?). Zombie's Halloween should not be one's only Halloween experience. I can always watch the old movies again, but I am excited to be able to see another chapter of the story on the big screen. There is something to be said about a modern adaptation with current technologies and techniques.

Ugh indeed. The beauty of the original Halloween was that Michael Myers just snapped and killed his sister. In Zombie's take, he's from an abusive, sex-filled household and he kills animals. It's no shock that a kid growing up in that environment would turn into a crazed serial killer. Therefore, for me, Zombie took all the... magic out of the idea that a normal kid would just snap one day and start killing teenage girls. Way to take all the fun out of it.
Although I did appreciate the Micky Dolenz cameo.

I think Rob Zombie is one of the worst filmmakers I've ever seen actually attract an audience. Instead of this, he and Uwe Boll should collaborate on some piece of shit flick. I thought the Halloween re-make BLEW, it put a smudge on John Carpenter's name. I have NEVER walked out of a movie before, but this one had me itchin. I'd rather see SAW VI, which is a tired franchise, but will be a hundred times more entertaining.

I'd rather get a PG-13 Halloween 2 from a glorified DP. Seriously.

All I can say (sarcasm, sarcasm) is that I am so thankful (laying on the sarcasm like maple syrup) that Rob Zombie (and yet more sarcasm) found the energy to pick this back up again (and yet more sarcasm to the point that everyone is sick of my sarcasm).
Go make another bad album and stay away from this franchise.

I'm in, I loved House of 1k Corpses when I first saw it... I think of it as a Texas Chainsaw Massacre update and find it much more entertaining than the official one. Then came The Devil's Rejects... This movie blew me away as some new kind of horror flick. Its kind of a crime drama, partially a western, somewhat of a road trip, and all gruesome. Its just a fantastic psycho-billy opus...
So when I saw Rob was directing a Halloween update I was excited. I saw the original trailer just before Grindhouse and it enhanced that experience. I love the back story for Michael Myers and I think Sheri Moon and Scout Taylor-Compton really carried the film well.
I like that Rob is going to take his own path with the sequel although I think the original Halloween 2 is one of the only watchable slasher sequels. Couple that with the fact that Rob managed to highly elevate House with Rejects and I feel good about this. I will definitely be there in October.

It is interesting to see how opposite people's feelings are about Zombie's movies. They either love or hate them...(http://www.everyhype.com/?utm_source=bc)... I expect this newest one to be very good.

I think Rob Zombie is the PERFECT, and SICK Individual for the project. I think that he and John Carpenter might have the same finish in mind but the path to get there will probably be quite different. Zombie's mind and the special effects we have to work with these days. BRING IT ON!!! I will be there!!!

I loved Rob's take on the Halloween movies. Of course, nothing is better than the originals, but I think he did a great job @ remaking the film. I saw the movie poster for H2 @ the movie theaters last night when I went to see the remake of Friday the 13th (which isn't too bad, better than I expected.) I say bring on a sequel, I'm sure Rob Z will do great!
