'Tron 2.0' Gets First Two Hottie Castmembers

It is not often that movie geeks can be taken by surprise, but that's exactly what happened at Comic Con back in July when Disney screened test footage from the long-rumored sequel to the 80's sci-fi classic, Tron. Now a few months later fans can rejoice at news that the project is still chugging along -- in fact, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Olivia Wilde (of TV's House) and Beau Garrett ( Wilde's co-star in the horror flick Turistas) have signed to star along side Jeff Bridges in the sequel to the cult classic.Newcomer Joseph Kosinski will direct from a script co-written with LOST writer Adam Horowitz. This is Kosinski's first feature after making a name directing commercials for Gears of War, Halo 3, and Apple, and has already been signed for the Logan's Run update over at WB (if that happens). According to the Reporter, TR2N, "is acting as a "next chapter." Plot details are being guarded closely, but Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original film."
Although, if we're being honest with ourselves, was Tron really about the plot? I know that for me it was all about those cool light-up suits and the possibility that I might disappear into my Commodore 64 (What do you want? I was seven).
TR2N (a title that gets more irritating to type each and every time) is scheduled for release in 2011.

I was thinking the other day, did I make Tron 2.0 up in my head? I didn't know if it was a real movie or just some figment of my imagination.
So really, thanks for the timely update, that helps :)

No, not really. The plot is complete nonsense, I couldn't understand a thing, but I appreciated the technical achievement that it was. Junk film, pretty cool special effects for the film - really makes you wonder how they did some of that stuff back then.
Watching it though, you just keep thinking how much better it would be using today's technology, if the story is explained better, the characters all look different (OK, inside the computer, everyone looks exactly the same except for Jeff Bridges? That's how computers work? That sucks... lets get some diversity in TR2N. Hey, I kind of LIKE typing that. TR2N TR2N... that's pretty amazing! Who knew numb3rs can f1t ins1d3 w0rd$?), and the cast has more fresh faces.
Jeff Bridges is in TR2N, that's odd. It didn't really need him at all.

Jeff Bridges was so cool in Iron Man as a nemesis, that's enough to have him come back. I like how in the footage he seems like an older guy, more experienced.
Tron's best attribute was to use a language that at that time was totally out of people's daily usage. Today we know what a server is and how a user interacts with a program that has his data. We are very familiar with a cursor and what a hacker does. Tron was truly years ahead, that was the plot itself.

I'm really curious to see what the visual style of this movie is going to be. I don't think they'll just bring back the neon suits from the original, but at the same time, haven't we already seen a movie where people interact in hyper real computer program (The Matrix)? And if they simply shot it as if the system was so advanced that the virtual reality looked just like reality then it wouldn't really be visually stunning the way the first one was. So I'm excited to see how things will look in this movie; I feel like it could be ground breaking and incredible or just downright ridiculous. Heres hoping for the former.
