Stupid Batman Rumor #368: Riddle Me ... Eddie Murphy?!
Filed under: Casting, RumorMonger, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Methinks the rumor-mongers are getting lazy -- this has to be one of the most ridiculous bunches of gossip that I've heard in a while, but (as usual) it's too amusing to not share. The Sun actually claims to have the scoop on the next installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise. Once again, the Riddler's name is coming up, but instead of an intriguing choice like Johnny Depp, they say -- in all their infinite wisdom -- that it's Eddie Murphy. But just to make it even more unbelievable (and obnoxious) -- the report also states that Shia LaBeouf has signed on to play Robin.
I'd be utterly shocked if Nolan chose Murphy to be the Riddler; however, I'd be certain that Nolan had lost his mind if he decided to reinvent Batman Forever. That's just not his style, and why folks like Spielberg might love Shia, I think we can all agree that he would be an awkward choice for Robin -- if Nolan even considered the possibility. The Dark Knight made phenomenal progress with the world of superheroes when Heath Ledger provided the feature with such a layered performance, so we need someone with solid, intriguing, and dynamic talents. Any suggestions to give The Sun better material to run with? Oh, and in case you need us to spell it out for ya: This one ain't true.
Note: In cooler Batman news, though, Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill will voice The Joker in the new video game Batman: Arkham Asylum, while Kevin Conroy will voice Batman. Both have voiced the characters before; Hamill in animated Batman and Justice League programs and Conroy, well, for anything that wasn't a live-action movie.

The Sun? Just last week they said Elvis has been found and will be playing the riddler. Although Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster auditioned but just didn't have the comedic timing to do it.

Having met Shia in real life (I was an extra in an upcoming film that I'm not supposed to talk about), I think he would make a terrible, terrible addition to a Batman movie. Even worse than Eddie Murphy. There I said it.
Also, ditto on the Mark Hamill/Riddler thing.

Ok - as much as i am sure this is pure BS - i recall thinking the same thing when it was announced Heath Ledger would play the Joker. "Wtf is this shit?"... so honestly, i am open to anything Nolan throws at us within this batman universe he's created,

These rumors are so ridiculous that they almost seem funny. I would e utterly surprised to see Murphy play this role and do it so well that the movie gets eve close reviews as the Dark Knight.(http://www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc) In fact, it would be surprising to see any reviews as good as the first no matte who fills the roles.

When I read the Eddie Murphy story, I laughed so hard that had I been drinking milk, it would have been snotty milk all over my keyboard and monitor.
Which gave me a great idea for a new superhero... Milksnot McGillicutty. He disables villains with bad, yet family friendly jokes and then sand-blasts them to hell with his potent, nuclear milksnot that can peel flesh off a villain's face much like a scene from Raiders. His condition is a result from falling into a vat of milk charged with radioactive isotopes that happened one day while he was touring a top secret government facility for some unknown and lame reason. Strangely, he and every member of his family look exactly alike, even the white cousin visiting from Georgia. Eddie Murphy could play this role to a T.
He could never play the Riddler.

I personally think, and I hope Christopther Nolan reads this or something. But I think that for the next film he need to bring Harley Quinn into the picuture. She would be perfect, it could open a window for bringing in the other villians he wants to. And then he could leave the Joker out of the film and people can ease off the idea of Heath Ledger being replaced. Because with how Joker and Harley would always fight and she'd run, so she could have gone to another villian in the city and she uses him without them knowing to make her plan to break Joker out of prison, or Arkyam. And at the end of the film thats what could happen.
