Stephen Chow Will Not Direct 'The Green Hornet'
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Deals, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Did you do a spit-take over the news that Seth Rogen was going to write himself a starring role in The Green Hornet, but then kinda rebounded when Stephen Chow became involved? If so, you might not like this bit of news.Variety reports the film has lost Chow (of arse-kicking Kung-Fu Hustle fame) as director. Why? The dreaded creative differences. I was both puzzled and not very thrilled with the choice of Rogen, but have pretty much lost all hope if Chow isn't happy with the way things are going. There is the possibility that Chow is the one with the off-kilter vision, or that he just wanted to execute it all in a wacky way, but we're talking about Seth Rogen in a role once said to be filled by George Clooney. It just doesn't make sense.
Oh, but there's more ... Chow will still stay on the cast roster and play Kato to Rogen's Britt Reid. Is it contractual? The dream to hold a role once played by Bruce Lee? Simple disinterest in directing the feature? I don't know, but it all sounds like a big hornets nest to me. Can anyone out there actually imagine Rogen as The Green Hornet? And does anyone have high hopes for this?

Rogen is the most overrated piece of no talent donkey shit! I hate him.period.
Chow on the other hand rocks, and i would have loved to see his vision of The Green Hornet, even though once i found out Rogen was involved it made me vomit in disgust.

I couldnt take Green Hornet serious with Seth Rgen as the lead. Stephen chow has a style that I think would have been better, and I am certain the creative difference was the lead role. How can Kato be more serious than The Green Hornet.

If Rogen lost 50 lbs, cut his hair and shaved his face, then maybe, just maybe I can see it happening.

Actually, Rogen has lost a good amount of weight for this role. I don't know about 50 pounds (I don't think he was 50 pounds overweight to begin with), but he's been in the gym a great deal getting in shape for the role.

Sure he can play the lovable "schlob" but to play teh Green Hornet and his true identity.
I could only see it if he lost weight and\or bulked up.

I agree with most of the folks that are on here; I just don't see it. I'm not saying they couldn't pull it off, but it kinda smacks of arrogance on Rogens part. Who knows though, from what I've heard most Movie Execs didn't want Sly to play Rocky, and we all know how that combo of writer/actor turned out.

Sounded like a dog when Rogen announced his involvement and intent to make a comedy. At least Chow knows to get out while he can. Perhaps Chow would not disrespect the memory of Bruce Lee with the obvious comedic treatment that was planned. Now all Morits has to do is get some serious writers in on this and do it the right way like the last two Bond and Batman films. The Hornet is not a comedy its a gritty crime story, the sooner they get that through their heads the better off they will be!

I don't know who the green hornet is, but it sounds like he's some sort of hero or superhero. Rudd does not fit that discription at all, but who knows, it could be a good movie. Rudd could be going for a different more goofy angle with his version. Rudd is one of the funniest and talented actors today. Stephen Chow rocks, Shaolin Soccer is so funny as well as Kung Fu Hustle

I totally agree with what ICON said!
When I first heard about that stupid lump of lard wanting to make a Green Hornet film I wasn't happy, then when I found out that he was going to play Reid I was totally disgusted!
I once read that he had asked Stephen to play Kato and Stephen had turned him down as he thought he was too old and couldn't do Bruce Lee justice, then he seemed to do a complete 360 and accepted the part which gave me some hope (although I love Stephen Chow, I personally think Chan Kwok Kwan would have been a better choice for obvious reasons), and now this...its not a good sign, and to be truthful, I would rather Stephen pull out completely from this sinking ship and concentrate on the sequel everyone is desperate for...Kung Fu Hustle 2!
