Discuss: Which Remake Do You Want Axed?
Filed under: Fandom, Remakes and Sequels
Remember that Rosemary's Baby remake that Scott blogged about earlier this year? Well, fear no more! While talking with Collider, Platinum Dunes' Brad Fuller and Andrew Form said that they're no longer doing it. Fuller said: "We went down that road and we even talked to the best writers in town and it feels like it might not be doable. We couldn't come up with something where it felt like it was relevant..."Of course, this news sends my mind a-racing, wondering (and hoping) if any other proposed remakes will get canceled or shelved. You could go in the Dunes-verse alone, and think back to the likes of The Birds, A Nightmare on Elm Street, or Friday the 13th. Or, go further, and think of the likes of Romancing the Stone, Footloose, The Crow ... the possibilities are nearly endless.
Me, I'd love to see Kevin Bacon's dancing shoes stay on his own feet, but what about you? Is this Baby news the blessing you've been waiting for, or is there another remake you're hoping will die?

Can we just kill all remakes and bring originality back to Hollywood?

The first one that springs to mind is the Karate Kid remake, but I'm sure if I thought hard about it I could name a few more :)

I vote The Birds as the most pointless and misguided remake I've heard of recently.

You stole mine. Seriously, who is dumb enough to try and remake Hitchcock? Have we learned nothing?

I don't get trying to remake The Crow already.
Plus, that movie was great, the sequels were awful.
I just don't think that movie needed sequals at all, as the original was a complete story, and didn't need anything added to it.

I second Oldboy.
Also, Let The Right One In.
Pretty much any of the amazing foreign films that are remade a day after they're released. It's just too bad we were too late to stop Quarantine. =(

I think that horror movies are being way too overdone. To see "A Nightmare On Elm Street" being re-made angers me. Same with "The Birds" seeing as they already did so a few years back for TV. It just scares me that they may try to touch "Evil Dead"...

I´d like to see the Star Wars prequels remade by younger and more sophisticated directors. Though we all know that will never happen.

most definitely the remake of the crow... it was such a great movie that was filmed exactly the way it should have been with a great lead in brandon lee.
also the remake of the karate kid... i don't see how they're going to top the whole wax on wax off and the crane kick. those are pop cultural moments that they can't win if they re-do it or if they try to come up with some other thing to equal that. plus i'm still not sold on will smith's kid as the karate kid...

In addition to those previously mentioned: The Thing, Hellraiser, Highlander, Suspiria, Fahrenheit 451, The Warriors, Paranormal Activity (I haven't seen this, but from everything I've read it doesn't sound like it needs a Hollywood makeover), etc.
This whole trend in remaking/reimagaining is out of hand. Is Hollywood really out of original ideas?

Last House on the Left, mostly. The original is so of it's time, so completely early 70's grimy/nasty/hopeless, and I just don't feel like a 2009 remake is anything other than pointless. I'm also not terribly enthused about the prospect of anyone attempting a Suspiria redo, either, really.

The two that have a sentimental hold on me are The Birds and Suspiria. I don't want to see those remade.
The other movies I don't care much about.

The horror genre is definitely taking a pounding with lame ass remakes (Prom Night, When A Stranger Calls, Amityville Horror, etc.). The Hills Have Eyes was probably the last remake I was impressed with, but remakes/reimaginings have gotten out of hand. Right now I'm dreading Robocop, Oldboy & The Crow. I don't care what directors &/or stars are attached--you just don't mess with those movies.

The Crow and Tron (although the latter may not be a re-make, so much).

I'm late in this, but I have to agree, Oldboy.
Also, the Cowboy Bebop movie... why?!
